Root Bugless Beast Rom Version 1.0 is Out!

I'm having issues installing a different version of spare parts. I rm'd the original one from system/app before i realized there was a script for it. I tried to run rmspareparts but get access denied. I uninstalled the data folder for spare parts with the application manager.

When I try to install the new spareparts.apk I get the message "application not installed". I'm not sure where to go from here.

The easiest way, and the way I did it, is to use Root Explorer:

1. Copy SpareParts.apk and paste it into /system/app (you would replace the same file if you hadn't already deleted it) -- you'll need to press the button on the top right that says "Mount R/W".

2. Long-press on the newly pasted SpareParts file and select Permissions.

3. Change the permissions to User: Read - Write, Group: Read, Others: Read

4. When you click Okay, you should see "rw-r--r--" in the fine print under the .zip name.

5. Click the Mount R/O button, then reboot.

Well, I updated from the BB leak to BB 1.0, and now my Email app force closes whenever I try to open any email. Anyone else having this issue?

Kind of important, since I use my Email app to access my work email...

I had this issue. I backed everything up and did a clean install (wiped data and cache) and now everything is A-O-K.

Hah! I knew that. I've even done this before! Not sure why that didn't occur to me. Thanks!

This is by far the best ROM I have ever used. For once I have no reason to go to anything else. Feels about 10x faster and smoother than CM.

For anyone's who has installed it, does the alarm work? I'm still on BB .9 and in that release alarm was broken.

I used the switchclocks script to go from the 2.1 clock to the 2.0 clock. (I like the 2.0 alarm clock better). I had to download/install the alarmclock.apk from Pete's thread. Works like a charm. I use the Bedside app every night ... works flawlessly.

Don't know if this has been asked but I just ran a few scripts (successfully!), two of which were to remove CorpCal and Amazon MP3. Well, now my app drawer is all screwed up (using Helix2 btw). All the apps are there, but they're not correctly situated and the names are off center to the app basically blocking half of the text. (I can't quite get DroCap2 to work correctly, I would post a sn if I could). Anyone know of a fix?

go into the config settings for helix and choose restart helix launcher. this is a known issue that pops up every now and then. :)

Thanks, I was starting to think 1.0 was just hating me with battery/temp/now this issues. Glad there's always someone here with good advice.

Anyone running the Helix 1 Launcher starting to get a little bit of lag when waking the phone up? Like maybe 4 seconds or so for all of the widgets to pop up. I've been running this since the day it was released and I am starting to have similar lag that I had running CM. I don't know if it's my phone or if it's the launcher. I really like the launcher with the fixed shortcuts on any screen, but not at the expense of the lag that is annoying the crap out of me.

.Sorry if I missed this somewhere but my thread searches revealed nothing.

I have been having my screen increase in brightness just before it times out. I most often keep my timeout set to 15-30 seconds, and brightness very low. The screen would normally dim a couple seconds before timeout, but now it brightens.

This only seems to happen if I use Quick Settings to lower the brightness below 10%. Usually I set it to 5% during the night or indoors. If I use the power control widget it will only drop to 10% brightness, and the screen will dim like it normally should.

I am sure I would have noticed this before, it is a serious blast to my eyes. However, this seems to have only been an issue with this rom. Its something I can live with, but quite annoying.

Any ideas what may be different or how to fix it?

Edit: Well I just realised the likely cause is Setting Profiles app now allows screen brightness doen to 2%. It actually does dim very slighly from 5%. So maybe android is setting the brightness to a certain level just before timout that is between 2 & 5%.

If anyone knows how to adjust that dimming to a lower brightness I would love to know. Thanks

Have you tried setting "home app in memory" in Spare Parts? I find that helps. I also run a cache cleaner every few days (CacheMate) which also (at least for me) helps with lagging. Make sure you do not have any widgets loaded in unused home launchers (I use Home Switcher to go into other home launchers to clean them out).

Love the rom so far. Its my first one but its been wokring well so far.

Is there anyway to set mp3s from my sdcard as a ringtone for the alarm clock? I used to have this feature in stock 2.1 but lost it when i rooted and loaded bb.

Yes, I'm using a couple of MP3s for my different alarm clock alarms. I set up an "Alarms" directory on my SD card (some folks will tell you it needs to be a subdirectory in an Audio or Music, but it doesn't need to be -- your Droid will find it). Then put the MP3s you want to use for alarms in that folder.

I've done the same thing to use MP3s as notifications for calendar, K-9 mail and GMail -- set up a Notifications directory and put the MP3s I want to use in there.

My spare parts, both from the market and bb, don't have the option to save the home app to memory. I remember this being a feature from CM though

I saved mine from when I tried Fab's NexBeast R1 and pushed it to /system/app so I would have that option. It's also a feature of the current NexBeast, so you could download that ROM, unzip it and pull it from there.

EDIT: I also posted my zipaligned version here: [ROM] Bugless Beast V1.0 ESE81

the screen redraw error seems to be a response to LWPs. When I switch to a regular wallpaper I no longer get the redraw problem. Beautiful Widgets also loads better without LWPs on. So I guess I'll stick to a regular wallpaper until these problems are sorted out. But all in all, BBv1 is the snappiest ROM I've used to date. I tried jRummy's and CM and both just seemed so slow, and they have the screen redraw problem too.

Guys I'm having an issue with wifi, when "use my location" is active for the browser to update my location, like the google home page. It works fine over 3g, but as soon as I turn on wifi the browser just crashes, no warning message, no force close message, no nothing. Any clue on how to fix this? I tried the reboot and battery pool, no luck though.

I love BB and want to make switch, but one thing keeps me on Cyanogen: Battery status in the battery bar.

Is there a simple MM to put that there? I don't want anything continuously running as a task though.

I know it's stupid, but I love it so.

What's keeping me from trying this, aside from Cyanogen's awesome little add-ons everywhere from the AOSP, is that there is no standard voltage kernel. My phone doesn't play well with LV kernels and I don't want a high voltage kernel because overvolting a CPU freaks me out, no matter how minute the overvolt is. :(
