My name is Mark and I have a Droid X. I absolutely adore it!! :D
I am a paramedic and enjoy the medical software available on the Droid.

I have a Droid X and have the 2.2 update installed. My question... is there a way to disconnect the big red shutter button on the side of the phone? I always use the on screen shutter button anyway and I have a case that keeps the red button pushed always and the phone acts "whacky" when this button stays pushed.

Good question Buievols. Welcome to Android Forums. Though I don't have the answer for you I will give you a link to the Droid X section here at AF. I'm certain if there is a way to disable the physical shutter button the folks in there will know. Here is that link: Motorola Droid X - Android Forums Best of luck to you and thanks for joining Android Forums. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome to the AndroidForums, Mark!

I have a Droid X, but I didn't know of a way to do this until I did a little poking-around.

There's an app that might work for you: https://market.android.com/details?id=appl.nocam

and another app called Tasker that might also have an option for this.

I don't have personal experience with either of these, but they might be worth looking into.

Cheers and glad you signed-up with us here at AF :).
