Build Quality

Meh

Hey all :)

Had my DS for 5 days now after my original Desire died. Love it!

However......

Overall build quality seems great but I have a gap between the top of the screen and the metal casing. Anyone else have this? Is it on all handsets or should I take it back. I also have a slightly creaky battery cover (in the centre at the bottom of it). Additionally I have had about 6 crashes/restarts. Anyone else had these troubles? Will CPW replace the handset for one/all of these issues?

Cheers all!

I can confirm my Desire S also suffers from all these issues/problems :(
Going to take it back I think. Mainly for the crash/restart issue which severely impacts on how useful the phone is as an actual phone...........

That sucks. Overall its the best built handset I've ever had but they are really annoying issues.

Will go in tomorrow I think (though it will be a diff branch to the one I upgraded at, this one is more local to where I live whereas the one I upgraded at is near where I work) and see what they say.

Best of luck with yours!

Any/everyone else got issues like this?? I'm certain CPW only swap like for like and wanna see if there's any chance of a perfect handset!

Hi I think you should take the phone back, there certainly shouldn't be a gap between the screen and the frame, nor a creaky battery cover. With regards to the phone crashing and restarting I'm afraid It's a known issue with some handsets more than others. I count myself lucky as it only happens once every ten days or so, some people have reported this to be a daily occurrence...
On a fnal note I'm fairly sure CPW have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee policy (in which case you'll be able to swap for another model or brand) but i'm not 100% sure. However as your phone has built quality issues they will definitely replace it I should think.

Cheers for the advice. I took the handset back and got it exchanged.

New one hasn't rebooted so far that's good. Also the new one doesn't have a creaky battery cover (yet but some others online say it developed over time) or gap above the screen.

CPW don't operate the 14 day change mind system on my network for upgrades, only new connections (though not sure if the rules can be bent if you get a dodgy handset time and time again!!). The usual 28 day exchange for faulty items is obviously there but it's a like for like exchange. They do offer the 14 day change of heart policy for some other networks though.

Cheers for the input, very happy with the handset (provided it behaves itself from now on!!).
