Building my first PC, Need suggestions!!

I know, but for the price difference, Im not gonna penny pinch.. My budget was 1000, but if I spend 1300 to get a much better more powerful long lasting setup, Thats ok by me !!

Only thing I might consider changing is the MOBO... I dont know if its from the fanboys, or the diehards, but more and more ppl keep telling me to look away from ASRock.. Dont know why, as the one I picked was pretty popular and well rated... But it did get me thinking..

Any other suggestions in the $150 range?

i havent looked at alot other than reviews and ratings lol.. Ive seen them, any suggestions?? The hard part is picking, because there seems to be so many of the same thing either rebranded or having the same specs, but different prices

Again, slowly but surley changing things... MOBO is probably the only thing that might go now.. IF there is a better option
Intel Core i5-3570K, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950, Corsair 500R Black - My Custom Build - comatoast's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

Seagate Barracuda 2TB has a high warranty rate. I had two of them go bad on me (the one that replaced my original was a bad drive out of the box). Luckily I got them from a local Fry's electronics and they let me swap it out for the equivalent WD drive. The sales rep who took care of me both times (same person) told me it was normal for those to go out in less than a year.

My suggestion is if you do buy the Seagate, keep your receipt as you most likely will need it down the road.

That is one reason I will always go with WD when buying a HDD. Crucial when I am buying a SSD.

Should be fine. Might need some cable ties if they dont come with your case, and another sata data cable for the extra hard drive :P If you don't have OCD or anything, you can just get the cheapest locking cable (3gbps or 6gbps doesn't matter).

anyone on the board have issues with ASRock boards? EVn tho ive been seeing some bad things 90%+ are good..

Also As far as OS go.. Is windows 8 any better, faster, more stable, than Win 7?? I just dont like the tile layout of 8 and have heard of MOBO Bios issues with 8 with companies like asus and ASRock

Asrock are supposed to the up and coming manufacturer. I don't see much wrong unless your board is known to have a particular problem/weakness.

Windows 8 is said to run a bit better and is more easy on the processor. Faster boot due to some hibernation like shut down...

Important to remember you can still use the desktop which is very similar to Win7. Just get 'Start8' for the start menu.

But if your motherboard doesn't say it's compatible I wouldn't risk it.

I would suggest WD Caviar Black drives, I have seen more failures out of the Blues. Seagates have also been hit and miss for me.

As far as the SSD have you looked at OCZ?

And I will second running an Nvidia card with the Intel chip.

Yea I will look at the WD drives as well as the barracuda again

Ive looked at OCZ, and the Crucial M4 and the 840 Pro... The Samsung 840P got the nod on most of the reviews Ive been looking at for Read/write speed , overall perrformance, benching, and quality

Why is that? Is it a personal preference? aLOT of ppl I have talked to say they have actually received better performance with a Intel/amd setup, compared to the similar products suited for name brand

the 840 pro is my ssd for sure.. Just debating on 128 or 256gb..

Is there any reason to go with a 256? All I will have on it, is the OS a few programs, openoffice, itunes and a few games.. Someone also told me that it would be worth the extra $$ to go with a 256 because you dont want to fill up the ssd, then have it full of cache, temp files and other things, which would then cause it to fill up and divert to the other drive, In this case a 7200rpm WD or seagate..

Is this true or make much sense to anyone? Whats an OS? 20GB or so?? then maybe 20GB of extra w/ programs games etc... So when He said that to me , I found it hard to believe that I could accumulate 80GB of temp files and cache that would ever make it slow down, or switch drives, Especially since I usually do a system cleaner and dump all temp files, trash etc every few weeks

The 250 GB is bigger- of course. But it has higher write speeds too. On my 250Gb 840, I have only a few programs installed and AC2 as well as Win7, and there's 170Gb free (that's also with the OP i set recently)

If you can afford the 250, I don't see why you shouldn't go for it :D

The problem with reviews is for every one you find touting the Samsung you will find another touting Intel, OCZ, Crucial etc. Benchmarks aren't as important as you are lead to believe either. Don't get me wrong, the Samsung is a good drive I just have personal experience with OCZ's and couldn't be happier.

It has been my experience that Intel plays better with the Nvidia gpu's. I have also been more pleased with the reliability, consistency and performance of the Intel processors over all. I have honestly never had an Intel processor fail (in my systems, I have seen them fail elsewhere), I can't say the same about AMD. I do game but my systems are primarily used for work doing word processing, spread sheets, photo and video editing, design and cad work.

Oh yes! Add in the cost of extra hard drives and SSD's, upgrades, backup methods and thinks like watercooling and you have a very large bill!

I would love to go all SSD on my computer, but that would cost a lot of money.

I've been told that you can get a taste of SSD performance with Intel SRT, which moves all of your program cache to a small SSD/small portion on the SSD.

Means a 64GB is more acceptable. Otherwise you'd want at least a 120GB.
