Buy the Thunderbolt but keep DX activated?

Is is possible for me to buy the HTC Thunderbolt now have it activated in the store but then go home and re-activate my Droid X until I get 4G in my area next year. I want to be grandfathered into the 4G and unlimited data but not ready to lose my DX yet. Is that against the rules or even possible? I know I can activate a used phone but is there a time limit to do it.

Hope the question isnt to stupid.

Thanks

Josh

the only way i could think of doing it would be to add a second line to your plan...you can't have two phones activated...

i have not really looked into 4G plans much...so idk exactly how the process works to be grandfathered in...so if you could explain that first i might be able to help more...

this is one way GSM service has an advantage over CDMA...the ability to just "hot swap" SIM cards in and out of phones was nice..

This might not be the answer your looking but I use a Eris and my x they just can be on at the same time when you want to switch.Plus you have to pay full price for the thunderbolt. You have them activate it you go home turn off pull battery on the bolt then dial *228 on your x and reactivate your x when you want to activate the thunderbolt again I think you will need a new sim card but I could be wrong on that.

that makes me miss my AT&T days when just swapping out SIM cards was enough to switch phones :o

If the OP payed full price, his contract wouldn't change. I get what the OP is trying to do, renew the contract to retain the unlimited data at LTE speeds and get a compatible device on it, without forgoing the use of his DX until LTE is actually up and running for him. Whether or not Big Red would object? On that I have no idea

Yes I would like to buy the bolt for 2 yet contract price but not use it. I would just have them activate it other wise they would charge me full price. Then I would go home and just de activate the bolt and re-activate the DX. I think I will try it and see what happens. It sounds like it should work :)

Just a quick question, why don't you want to use the Thunderbolt? It is a better phone compared to the Droid X, and you wouldn't have to worry about them taking away your 4G.

Indeed. The Thunderbolt works quite well on 3G so you wouldn't be loosing out by using it now.

Battery life though haha.

If you dont have 4g in your area, verizon will not give you a 4g plan therefore you can do it. I do it all the time trying out different phones but end up activating my x in the end.
