buying desire : still ok?

hmm sure the Desire is still a decent phone, i would suggest looking at the Galaxy S also.
or perhaps hold on a bit see what comes out.

as for getting old, tbh any phone bought is technically out of date compared to whats coming out, its just like PCs, you buy a top of the range all bells and whistles, and within a month theres something better out.

Personally i think the Desire is a good phone to start off with smartphone wise, get you used to android etc.

I agree with voodooochild.

But perhaps it's better to wait a bit more and see what comes out in the couple of months.
Might get you a better deal or something.
And although the Desire is "old" it's still a hot phone.

I just bought Desire (or.. it should be here by tomorrow), but i bought it because I got it for very nice price and with very nice contract. (2€/month max rate internet connection etc. in the widest 3G/HSDPA network here in Finland which is starting to be nice)

So if you get a great deal like this, why not :) But without any good deal I think you should buy something else

I have the Desire and have had it since its UK launch (April iirc) and I still do not know a phone that comes close.

The Desire was the best phone in 2010 and it holds that title with very good reason. It is not going out of fashion any time soon. It is still top of its game and still regarded as one of the best consumer handsets on the market today.

For the first time in my life im thinking ive finally got a phone on a 24mth contract that will still be a good phone after 24mths.

I was given an Unlocked Desire Handset for Xmas. Its an awesome phone!

One of my friends has an IPhone 3GS and he has now decided to buy one too after playing around with my phone.

Consider the Nexus S. It's pretty cheap and is one of the best handsets out there right now.

Desire is a cracking phone, getting a bit leggy now but if you like it, go for it. Pick the phone you want best.

I realised something earlier today: Having had the Desire about six months, it's the only bit of technology I've ever owned that I've never been seriously frustrated with. I often get mildly irritated with my computer, TV, printer etc when things refuse to work. But the Desire has never gotten on my nerves. In six months. With heavy daily usage. That says a lot about it.

Thank u for the replies!

Unfortunately the nexus s is not easy available in my country. We're always behind new releases. I have to decide next week. I suppose I could wait a few weeks and wait for the duals to come out. Of coarse, every two months there will be something new. Maybe consider the Lg optimus 2x. But before it will be in our stores, the dhd just arrived since some weeks so.... And even the price of the lg is not known either. I probably just go for the desire... I think..

Its hard.

I got it for 2 months and it'+s a really decent, awesome phone as i's my first Android phone. Also the price is cheap there, you can get one here for €450 or more only.

The Desire is a great phone that amazingly doesn't feel to me as though it is dated or about to be replaced by something significantly better. It is fast, the screen's a good size but not too big and importantly for me it feels solid and well made; not light and plastic. It feels great in your hand. Its 2 weak points are the speaker (which I don't use anyway) and the screen isn't brilliant in bright sunlight.
I think it will go down as a design classic & I for one am in no rush to replace it. Its nearly a year old and nowhere near out of date; amazing for a mobile phone.

I'd avoid any Samsung phone unless you plan on using a custom ROM as they are appalling with software updates. Had the original galaxy, techincally a good phone but was abandoned on 1.6 with no sign of even a 2.0 update. Same seems to be happening with the Nexus S.. long wait for 2.2 Samsung are a hardware company and they only seem to care about selling more hardware, not looking after existing stuff.

Quite true that...

Htc2nd

Who's 3rd...

LOL

Id have a Nexus S but for the fact it aint got an FM radio.

I would go for nokia or htc, but since nokia refuses to go to android I'll have to go for htc. Anybody any idea when they will come with a dual phone?
Because from the range of htc phones, the desire is still the one i would get if there are no new ones coming out.. Htc, 3.7-4" screen, dual, and what about the batterylife with a x2core phone?
