Buying in store on the 29th! Read this!

Also if you are going to be new to gmail, and want to port your email over from whatever else you were using (yahoo, msn, whatever)...the easiest way is to use Outlook.

If your email is set up as your main box, you can open up a secondary box at the same time (in this case being gmail). Then in your main box, drag and drop your inbox, sent box, and the rest into gmail. It will copy all the mail to it (if you have a slow connection at home this could take a while...but it works).

yeah I already use gmail, and I've had my work email sent to my gmail account for sometime now...it's just easier to check my emails that way...but I was just wondering bout my contacts and calender and stuff, seeing as I'm a virgin to the Android OS...so while I'm at work and bored out of my mind, I'll work and getting everything synced up thanks YALL have been a BIG help!

OK I'm guessing by some success you mean that it's missed one or two numbers? If I can avoid going to the store I will...

No it got all the numbers.. by some success I mean that I've had some problems "keeping" everything synced.. the connection will stop working after a time. (most likely related to me pulling the battery on the curve at least daily!)

For what you're trying to do (upload contacts to Gmail from BB) it will work awesome. Check out this link for more info:
Google Sync for your phone

So I'm guessing that there is no way to transfer numbers from a blackberry to the HINC? I'm hoping that there is because that's one less step i have to go through (I'm up to bout 450 phone numbers on my Storm so the less I have to type or enter into gmail the better)

Two easy ways:

1). Are your BB contacts stored in Outlook as well? If so, just add Google sync to your desktop and it will sync to your gmail account.

2). Load Google sync onto your BB, and it will sync to your gmail account.

The phone comes with HTC Sync which is supposed to Synchronize Outlook Contacts and Calendar. It's what I'm going to use or you can install Google Sync (which I'm trying on my BB now to get used to it). Google Sync will sync your Contacts and Calendar to your Google account and then when you get your Incredible it should pull everything down when you sign in. Hopefully ;)

Exact same approach I am taking. Started a couple of weeks ago. And Google calendar is great, and I think I am preferring it to Outlooks calendar now.

It seems to vary store to store, the smaller, the less likely you will see any type of pre-order. The larger stores seem to be taking a pre-order by having you buy a $50 gift card to later apply towards the phone price and you get a receipt to prove you pre-ordered. smaller stores may either take your name for a list of who has requested the phone. an individual employee may take your number in hopes of commission.

They seem to be getting between 2 and 25 depending on the size of the store and this seems to vary greatly between who you ask.

I believe stores will open at 9 am as i was told to be there around then. (i plan to get there 15-30 mins early) But this has not been definitely confirmed by anyone as far as i know.

Thanks guys for the info! I did this all while at work  but anyways yeah my full calendar and that is all synced now with my gmail...now I can completely avoid the store on the 28th and 29th, as the local store by my house is full of some brain-dead folks...and the rep that normally takes care of my family and friends is off in Tampa (of all the times she needs to take a vacation amirite? :p)

FWIW, today I actually went into the store I posted about yesterday. There was a different manager on duty (who I've dealt with before and is very cool). She showed me the computer screen, and they do indeed have 70 of these bad boys in stock. She also verified that they are holding 2 for me. Then, she got the fully functional demo unit that came with their launch kit, had me go behind the counter with the staff, and let me put it through its paces for a bit (without leaving her sight). IMHO, for those who haven

Oh really??? You really think 150,000 Incredibles will be sold over the weekend? when most of the tech geeks out there now have Moto Droids and are not planning on giving them up yet.

Moto Droid with its MASSIVE marketing campaign sold well because it was the first Android phone on Verizon and people have been waiting for it. Today Verizons customers have already been saturated with Android phones and are not planning on upgrading to the Incredible except for maybe Eris uses who realized they were fooled into buying an obsolete phone.

I'm not saying 150,000 is the number, as there is no official number out there, but even if there were 150,000, do the math. Some are obviously going out right now on the preorders and some have to be kept back for the orders that will keep coming in at the warehouses. Let's just suppose Verizon has 2000 or so stores. No matter how you slice it, that's not many phones per store.

And the reviews on the street for the Incredible are virtually all very positive. Generally speaking, they say it is the best Android phone you can buy. You don't need advertising with reviews like that, you need phones. I doubt the quantities coming in will support demand, even without advertising.

Because I don't have to go through all the anxiety, crying and crap in the other threads about "My order status hasn't changed" BS. As I've already stated in several other pre-order threads, I'm the opposite. I see no reason to pre-order, as I'll be in/out of my local store this Thurs morning at 9am well before 99% of those who pre-ordered get theirs from FedEx :p
I will be paying the exact same price, with the only difference is I have to send in my $100 rebate. Big whoop-de-do!

Again, to each his own. But right now, I have 0% anxiety going into this week about getting the phone unlike about 99.9% of the people on here who are going stir freakin' crazy. Just look at the past 10pages of 900 in the main thread and you'll see what I'm talking about. Pandemonium at it's best and all for nothing

I happen to be the opposite. The anxiety it would cause me to wait until launch day, deal with my local vzw reps, wait forever for my number to get assigned to a rep and have them possibly be sold out without knowing when they'll get more in is MUCH more stressful for me to deal with. Knowing that I have MY phone, waiting for me down at my mailbox, with people there to sign for it all day, no vzw reps to try to sync my phone numbers when I already have Google contacts setup the way I want...for me, there'sno contest. My phone is ordered, reserved, and done so early so I know I'll get one. The fact that my order status changed to processed and should arrive in 2-3 days is a bonus that I really didn't expect to see happen till Wed or Thurs. But as you said, to each their own.

I'm just going to go and buy the phone in person. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't everyone have to go in the store and get the phone set up and numbers and contacts all transferred over to the new phone?

No, you should be able to do backup assistant on both your old and new phones at home and you can definitely activate it yourself without problem and likely in less time than in store.

What's the procedure for activating at one's home or office? I was thinking it was the "228" dial up...but I've never done that. If that is the procedure, is there a way to enter the phone number you are upgrading to?

The procedure is wicked easy. You'll need some basic info such as order number, the number from the back of the phone, last 4 digits of the social security number on the account, etc. Enter that at the url they give you for activation (or there's an activate phone link on their site). Then they'll prompt you to dial the *228 number option 1. The phone will get all the info and latest programming/software it needs and you'll be good to go. It really isn't the big mystery that it seems to be.

When I spoke with a phone CSR the other day he seemed really surprised at the number of orders coming in and hinted that shipping and processing were being delayed to phone availability which is why several people hadn't received processing emails yet. He felt it was going to be a huge seller (or perhaps this was his way of saying that it already was...) and definitely didn't sound sure that the current stock would last. So it will be interesting to see what happens with it. Interestingly, the more I tell my husband about my phone, the more intrigued he gets. He's wondering what type of deal we could get for his line so he could have one too. :D This Incredible bug seems to be contagious!

I visited a corporate store and the sales rep took my name and number. She will call me Wednesday to confirm that I will be there at 10am on Thursday. She seemed quite sure that there will be enough stock to cover the demand. She let us play with the phone for about half an hour!

i just wanted to chime in that my verizon store said they had about 7 incredibles to sell that weren't being held for the verizon employees. when i asked about reserving one they had no idea, but after a couple minutes researching, they told me i could put $50 down and reserve the phone, but that i HAD to pick it up on thursday

I can't speak for others, but I seem to have horrible luck with new phones. The last 3 upgraded phones I got had major problems that were obvious at boot-up. The first 2 were purchased online, and I had to send the defective phone back, and it had to be processed by VZW before they sent me another one. The last one was in-store. The CSR saw the problem and went to the back and got me a new one on the spot. I'd rather not risk it.[/QUOTE]

*611 and they will cross ship a phone if you are loud enough.

Its kind of amazing they didn't push the Incredible on nfl draft day or on any channel the past few days..havent seen one commercial about it...if I hear the reception on calls is ok for marginal areas I'll order online, love the instant rebate
well they (un)officially renamed the phone the Droid Incredible, so people going into the stores im sure would be interested in the "Droid."

Most people don't even know what droid is really (ie the motorola model, or general Android OS phone)

*611 and they will cross ship a phone if you are loud enough.

I tried, and they were happy to do so as long as I allowed them to charge my credit card or my VZW account for the new phone and credit back upon receipt of the defective unit (which could take up to 30 days). All the squawking in the world didn't get them to make an exception. On the other hand, they had no problem moving up my NE2 date by six months so that I can take advantage of an additional $100 off the DINC.

There are positives and negatives to both ordering online/picking up from store. I guess it just boils down to personal preference. I admit, the instant $100 rebate is nice vs. waiting for a Visa debt card. In the past, my local store has waived the mail-in requirement and given me an instant rebate. I hope they do the same for me when I pick up my DINC!

also, if Verizon unlocks the SKU early, I wonder if a store employee could be convinced to sell it early (like Tuesday or Wednesday)

This is what I am hoping for... that and an employee who would love comission on 2 phone sales, 2 data plans and a 2nd line.

I plan on going in tuesday and telling them I will just have to buy it elsewhere if they cant sell it to me.

here here!

So we need someone to tell us when the SKU officially becomes unlocked, because at that point I believe it could be "negotiated" by talking to the right manager/employee etc ...
I wouldn't be surprised if we start hearing reports of this to happen tomorrow or the next day as some Verizon employees pick up their handsets fast, and also shipping for the online orders will happen soon, so they must have the same SKU in the computer system as the in-store handsets?

I just got back from the biggest verizon store in my area. the manager came out and told me they were only getting 10 incredibles on launch day the 29th. he then had a form that he said just came out that reserves a phone for launch day. u pay $50. and get a gift card and a reservation paper with picture of incredible on it. u use the gift card to purchase the phone on launch day he said i was the first one to reserve one at his store. if they are only getting 10 phones i feel there is going to be alot of pissed off people on launch day:confused:. i hope he is wrong

I had the exact same experience at the largest VZW corporate store in my city. Almost to a T. They're also only getting ten and had quite a few on hold because of that sheet already. I ran (read: drove really fast) back to the office to order online. I'm not taking any chances.

Did you try the smaller lesser known local stores? Thats where im planning to go since they may be more likely to make an exception for a good sale.

I just called my 2 local stores...

The 1st one said they have no idea on available inventory, and that they ARE NOT reserving the Inc for customers...

The 2nd store told me they would hold 1 for me. He couldn't tell me how many holds there were, or how many phones they had in stock. I called this store Sat and they told me they wouldn't reserve the Inc so who really knows.

I'd order it via phone but I'm afraid at this point that there wouldn't be enough inventory to fill the order, and I don't want to wait any longer than necessary.!

Ok....just came back from 3 stores (1 of which let me play with it)......

1. Out of the 3 stores only 1 still had pre-sales available (they are limited to 10...I'm in NY so any questions about us getting more should be settled by that)

2. The 1 that still had it....its only for 2 year plans....not 1. So I couldn't do it anyway.

3. Was told that corporate is limiting them to 10 pre-sales per store...but they should be getting more than that on sales day (thursday) One guy gave me his card to call him that morning....another told me she would call me. I'll probably hit a store in the AM.

4. If they sell out they are getting another shipment on Monday

In other words...the 10 we are hearing...is just a pre-sales #. Each store should have more inventory than that on Thursday but they are limiting the in-store presale.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a "pre-sale"? Is that the same as having one reserved? Or can you go into the store and pay for it before it's released?
