Buying unbranded....

Hello...

I am looking to buy a Desire outright, then put my contract sim in, then re-negotiate my sim only deal in the summer... :D

Anyway, I'm thinking of either buying a PAYG from o2 on payday, or order online for next day delivery an unlocked unit from the like of Clove or Handtec (anyone recommend?).

Is it better to buy 'unbranded' from the outset or unlock should I want to move network?

Will I get updates quicker by buying unbranded?

Cheers...

Buy unbranded, this way you'll get all updates from HTC as opposed to having to wait on the original operator of the phone to allow them. May cost a bit more but better in the long run

A word of warning, if you plan on trading in your old phone they factory reset it during testing so back up before you go, and you'll need photo id.

I was in just before Christmas and I had the choice of three desires, all unlocked and I think two of them were brand new the other was "grade b" which looked ok to me.

Have you had a look on Gumtree Edinburgh? There are a few there as well.

You need to careful that they're not debranded handsets running the stock FW as these won't update at present

From what I've read online Carphone Warehouse sell unlocked/unbranded Desires which get their updates from HTC, which have a build number such as 1.21.405.2 (where the 405 means unlocked).

Didn't get mine from CW, got it on contract from Vodafone and it has their firmware without any bloatware or VF logos.
