Yes, or find a rom that has those changes incorporated. The only thing I hate about the Nexus 4 is having to re-apply the lte changes every time I flash a new rom.

I dont know what kind of experience your buddy has but I have the nexus 4 and its fast smooth and never lags, I know heat can be an issue with this phone but that has not even been a big problem for me.![]()

i thought when using the Nexus 4 on Metro/T-mobile you didt have to mess with the LTE settings because we would be using HSPA+...am i mistaken?....

The Nexus 4 wasn't certified for LTE usage. However, Google/LG made a mistake at launch by leaving the hardware in the phone to support band 4 LTE and having a baseband that supported it's use. Xda hackers discovered this and found a way to enable it. Once realized, Google pushed out an updated baseband to disable it. However by flashing this older radio firmware, and applying some other minor tweaks, you can re-enable it. So it will hypothetically work on any GSM network that uses band 4 LTE, which is T-Mobile, AT&T in a very small amount of locations, and most of Canada.
HSPA+ is the older tech, fast even now but the new generation, "4G" is LTE
GSM carriers, such as t mobile/metro and at&t use hspa for fall back from lte.
CDMA is slower then hspa and even metro's LTE is slower then some t mobile hspa + however that is only because of the other factors, backhaul, bandwidth, etc. the LTE technology is very much faster when deployed right.
i was are of those differences, what i was not aware was that T-Mobile actually had LTE in a small amount of locations, for those locations would be better to flash the radio firmware, but its not necessary if you're willing to stay with HSPA+ as those will still work, correct?...more direct question, if i get a Nexus 4 will it get internet? lol
Yep, it will still work just fine. I have the modification in place and if I got to an area without LTE but still has HSPA, it will fall back onto that. T-Mobile actually has LTE in quite a few markets currently, around 115 markets to my knowledge. It's not necessarily blanketed coverage in all the areas, but still pretty decent.
