...calculating... (?wtf!)

(on 4.0.4 stock rooted) So I'm trying to check app usage and disk usage --- in settings menu. 8GB free on phone. It was always slow to calculate before on 4.0.2... but now it is SUUUPER slow... can't even get disk usage numbers... just... calculating...

anyone experience this? Understand why?
 
have you tried wiping cache and dalvik? I have found doing that once a week solved a lot of lagging issues in most programs.
 
For me it just takes awhile since it has to scan all the file types from a few thousand files. I just figured it took a long time because of all the stuff in memory.
 
thanks for the replies... no i havent tried wiping cache and dalvik... never ever done it before... what does that wipe?
 
I cleared dalvik, and then my phone went through the wholi upgrading process of 'optimizing' all my apps --- i.e. the popup after reboot where it says android is upgrading and optimizing n out of N things.

Didn't seem to help my 'calculating' issue though. Didn't wipe 'cache partition' though, only dalvik... maybe I will try wiping cache partition next.
