Calendar and contacts

I currently have a Palm Centro and love the calendar and contacts features on both my PC and the phone. I'm going to get a HTC Incredible with Verizon. What calendar and contact program, free or not, would most closely duplicate the Palm features? I want something on both the PC and the phone. I'm not very sophisticated when it comes to smartphone or computers. And recommendations to duplicate the Palm features?

Android syncs seamlessly with Google GMail and Google Calendar on the web. I'd try using those as your first port of call, rather than, say, trying to sync with Outlook or another email/calendar application.

You could set up a Google account now if you haven't already got one and get used to the features. When you get your phone, just register with the same google account.

I'd play around with the native applications on the phone first, they may be fine for you.

I like the Jorte calendar app on the phone, synced with my Google calendar. As SoftWyer suggested, if I'm at a computer updating the calendar (which is rare) then I just use their web interface.

I was a Palm user for years & liked the contacts and calendar features as well as the sync to & from PC & phone. Gmail is better. Export/import your contacts from Palm to Gmail (on the PC). When you setup your phone you establish your Gmail account. Then you'll have a multiple of options to incorporate your calendar/apps/documents/browser bookmarks, & on & on "real time". No need to tell it to sync.. it just does it.

If you must use Outlook, you should be able to install the HTC Sync App. You would then have to plug in your Incredible to your PC and run the Sync process manually....much like the Palm. If not...Gmail works great to sync it all wireless.

I use gsyncit to keep my google calendar and contacts in sync with my gmail - which automatically pushes out and back from my phone. (It has the capability to do notes and tasks as well, but I don't use those). You can configure it to only sync certain categories of folks on the contacts which was really essential to me because I use my desktop outlook for my business but don't want all those people on my phone. I have it set up to automatically sync whenever I exit outlook. Once I got it set up and working it has been flawless and I don't know how I would function without it since I really need to keep outlook. It is a paid app.

This applies to MS Outlook 2010 32-bit contacts to GMail contacts to HTC MyTouch 4G contacts (type = Google)

Does anyone have a solution for gSyncIt producing duplicate records. I have two duplicate data sources, Outlook and GMail Contacts. Syncronizing them results in duplicate records being created in both sources. I have tried "Remove Duplicates when Syncing" without success. I have tried "Use outlook FileAs value as GMail contact full name" with no success. gSyncIt can be loaded manually with duplicate data from the same data files and still results in duplicates being pushed in both directions.

I even have an intermittent problem where gSyncIt reverses first name and last name.... Even if those records don't result in duplicates and have resulted from data restored from the exact same external data source (i.e. CSV, etc)

Anyone see a solution? Anyone else experienced this?

I am asking the users of gSyncIt as I sent FieldStone a support request and only got an insulting reply from a developer who appears to place little value on user experiences and no desire to solve user problems. I have 20 years in software development and testing and have never experienced a response like I received from Dave... The mere mention of lack of satisfaction with the product due to these problems resulted in a defensive response rather than attempt to resolve an end user's problem.

How do you avoid duplicates? My GMail contacts and Outlook contacts are exact duplicates. I loaded them from the exact same flat file / Google format file... I keep getting duplicates pushed from Gmail to Outlook.
The calendar sync works perfectly. But the contacts sync creates duplicates. Isthere a possibility of attaching a screenshot of you contact sync and over all sync settings? I've tried every realistic combination with no success.

Seeing as though you have had success, your help would be appreciated. The developer see's my problem as an isolated problem, even though it is a common problem of the forums, and refuses to help.

The first time I synced I ended up with a few duplicates (not a lot) but I just deleted them and then synced again and they were gone. I have not since had a problem with that at all, and have added contacts both to outlook and to the phone with no issues. I did take great care setting up my sync parameters, maybe that had something to do with it? Sorry I can't be more help.
