I have just noticed that since my phone updated, all my appointments before 12th June have disappeared! I am a in a bit of a flap as I need them! Is there any way to get them back?

Assuming you are using the standard Android calendar, which is the Google calendar, you should be able to find what you need at Google Calendar.

Thanks a million! Yes, my appointments are there! Thank goodness! Is there any way to get them back on the app by any wonderful chance?
It looks like someone else had this issue and solved it by temporarily changing the date backward on the phone. You can find his solution in this post.
Another solution I found is to export your calendar from Google on the web and, once it finishes, to import that same file back. From what the person claims, importing the calendar does not duplicate the entries but it does make Google think the entries are now "current" (despite the date for the events is past), at which point they will sync normally. The post I found it on is long and wordy, but you can find it here.
