Help calendar issues

hi all ive just got a galaxy s2 and all is good apart from the calendar which will not sync to my google calander but does from. a message comes up which reads
"local calendar cannot sync with google calendar. you need a google account"

I have a google account regestered on the phone so I am unshure what to do next to try to remidy this
