Calendar noob

Ok, as the title says I'm a noob to the event calendar. What I'm wondering is, I have an Optimus One phone a couple people at work have Blackberry's. When I get a notification of an event via my email on my phone (which is my work email, not a gmail) I get this error when I try to open it.
"The attachment cannot be displayed"
Do I need something to get it to properly work? To be honest, I don't even know exactly how they work. Is it supposed to just put the info into my calendar automatically?

Can you see this notification in mail client? In which format (ending after dot or sample contents) the notification comes? Android is very limited with formats and can open just files which are known to system, but if you provide the extension or sample, maybe it will be possible to find some program which can open the notification or import it to calendar.

I can see the notification title only. Then I have the option to open or save. I can't do neither. Its a .ics file. I tried ics bot. Its on my phone except its not on and I can't turn it on cause the only option available to press is Uninstall. Force stop is greyed out, cleare data and move to sd card are all greyed out. The problem is in my running services, it is not running. Not sure how to get it to turn on. I also don't see it in my apps either. Very weird this app.

I had to download k-9 mail to actually be able to open the attachment. Default mail doesn't work. I also notice this website has a lot more people with questions then people with answers. Lots of threads are left unanswered. lol
