Help Calibrate compass doesn't turn green - Droid X

I've tried to use calibrate compass. I get the round compass to appear. I rotate the Droid X on all 3 axis. The compass never turns green to indicate a successful calibration.

Thoughts?

You actually have to rotate it for a good three minutes.
It takes time, but it'll come up.
what he said...I was just about to give up for about the fifth time but decided I would try until it did it mine wasn't 3 minutes but it felt like it

Wait where is the compass at?

The X like most other Android phones has a built in electronic compass.
To calibrate: Setting / Location & security / Compass / Calibrate Compass
To use: Download any compass program from the app store. It is also used (in the background) with augmented reality programs such as Layer, etc

I didn't go until it turned green, but the compass readings are fairly close to real now. Before calibration it was reading west as east, and made Skymap impossible to read. Now the stars are aligned.

anyone else having difficulty getting the phone to turn green?

I've been turning back and forth but it never turns green!

For those who've been able to get it to calibrate, did you follow the image in how you rotate the phone?

I've heard a figure 8 pattern works, but I ended up just switching between the 3 axis, with about 3 to 5 reps each time. 3 front to back dips, 3 side to side rolls, 3 twists, repeat. It takes quite a while, maybe 7 to 10 of those sessions I just mentioned.

I've been getting real good at turning it red, never green though. I don't know what red means but I guess I am not doing it right.

After spinning my phone until it was about to throw, up I ran across a thread (the one that mxsjw linked to above) that said to uninstall the compass app, reboot the phone, then retry the calibration. FINALLY... it worked!

I am so new to the X that I thought I overlooked some simple rule to do this task of calibration of the compass. After reading some of the posts, I realize I am not the only having problems with this. Red compass after red compass and about to give up, then one post said to power down and reboot the phone and try again.

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!! Green compass after only a few twists and turns of the X.

Thanks.

I have read through this thread and others. I have rebooted and tried calibrating. I have turned all three axes until my hands almost fell off. I tried laying it on desk to keep it in 'position'. Long story short I have been unsuccessful. Frustrated and feeling rather inadequate in ability to follow the tips in this thread. Any other hints or sympathetic comments would be appreciated...

Same here... Red after Red after Red on my attempts to calibrate, then reboted and tried it and got a green for the FIRST time ever!

...except the compass was 75-degrees off of true after getting a green. :(
