Call Indicator Charm

I saw the commercial for the HTC Rhyme the other day - obviously doesn't hold a candle to our Bionic, but I have to admit that I do like the call indicator charm. I think it would be nice to have when my phone is buried in my purse - I would think that I would be able to see the charm light for missed calls/texts without digging it out. Anyone have any ideas as to whether these charms will start to be marketed for other phones?

I looked at a demonstration video of the Rhyme. It seems like it connects to your 3.5mm audio jack. I think all it does is send a signal thru the audio which powers up the little charm. It's like sending a little beep thru your headphones which isn't there but the little power it gets powers the LED at the end of the charm. I'm not a developer but I don't think it would be too hard to do? I dunno. I wonder what would happen if i played music thru the headphones and stuck that charm on. Would it blink like crazy or stay lit the whole time? I dunno.

"charms"?? as in "me lucky charms"? :) I wish I knew what u two are referring to, as "charms".

LOL. The HTC Rhyme has this little charm that connects to the 3.5mm jack that glows when you have a missed call. It's targeted for women in general who have their phones in their purses and dont want to bother checking their phone every few mins to see if they missed a call/text/notification. Basically you hang it out of the purse.

On a side note. I want to experiment cutting a set of headphone wires and hooking it up to an LED and see what happens when I play music lol.

Let us know how out goes!

Well I read that most LEDs only require a voltage of 0.8 to turn on. I couldn't find anything about voltage output on 3.5mm jacks. As long as I get the minimum amount of voltage out of the 3.5mm jack it should work. Imma test this out on an Ipod Video i have collecting dust so I dont jack up my Bionic lol. I could figure out the voltage on the 3.5mm jack but my Radio Shack voltage meter is dead and requires some stupid 12V battery i've never seen nor want to buy cause it'll probably be expensive -.-...

My wife wants one for her Droid2G, I found this.

HTC Rhyme Charm Call Indicator ID C100 (with 3.5mm Jack) #99H10390-00 - Expansys USA

Not sure if it works or not, but for ~$12, I might give it a try. If you get to it before me, let me know how it works.

I did read on yahoo answers that the HTC charms don't work on other phones (I couldn't find the site again, or I would have posted it).

I found this thread:
http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/426318-call-indicator-charm.html

But, two problems with these charms: 1) Our bionics aren't GSM and 2) the bionic doesn't even have a slot for charms. So, the search is still on.

hey guys, i have a samsung galaxy s2 and it doesnt have an led for indications, which sucks. saw the charm on the htc rhyme and thought if i could get that to work on my phone that'd be awesome. cant seem to find any videos on youtube showing the charm on any other phone. :(

have you guys tried it out yet?

Hey Guys, I ordered this for my wife's Tmo G2. It doesn't work. In fact, it blocks the call from coming in. As soon as I unplugged it, it flashed my call, then showed it as a missed call. I tried again, and the phone actually crashed.

I then tried it on my HTC Sensation. It recognizes it as a headset, but doesn't light up. The phone rings as normal though, which was different. So, going to send the charm back.

Hey guys. You're all farting in front of a fan here lol.

It is only a feature of Sense 3.5 meaning only the Rhyme and the ReZound (for VZW anyways) will use it. It is a software feature of Sense.

I figured it required software to make this work. I never really followed up on my so called experiment but I am still going to assume it still works the same.

also on sale here: HTC Charm ID C100 Call Indicator (White) for HTC Rhyme, HTC Rezound and different color: HTC Charm Call Indicator ID C100 for HTC Rhyme, HTC Rezound

I did a mini review on it here: How the Charm works on the HTC Rezound

But it is my understanding that this particular one will only work on HTC Sense 3.5 phones. (it was tested on a couple Sense 3.0 phones)

Did seem to be kinda handy I'll admit, not sure if it will catch on for other phone manufacturers though

This might be geared towards women, but has anybody thought that it would be great for people wearing hearing aids? My husband wears hearing aids, so cannot wear a bluetooth ear piece and frequently misses calls. If he had this charm and could "see" that the phone was ringing, it would really help. He has an HTC EVO 4G and it sounds like unfortunatly this charm won't work for him. I hope in the future that someone figures this out to work with all phones and allows the charm to blink and allow the call to come through.

If he has a custom sense 3.5 rom it should work.

my charm wont light up when i receive text messages but it does light up for incoming calls, according to a source person it depends on the apps that i downloaded, like SMS PRO, he uninstalled it and he was right. though i was a bit disappointed but what is important it lights up during incoming, anyway i set my unit to notify me when i have unread messages

What does GSM have to do with the charm? And a slot for charms?

I think we are all confused.

I also just read something about Sense 3.5?

The charm is the dongle looking thing that plugs into the 3.5mm headphone jack. GSM, Special slots, and Sense 3.5 won't have anything to do with it working. The question is will it light up?

My answer is probably, the voltage coming out of the headphone jack can't vary too much because then it would cause your earbuds or headphones to be too loud.

Has your husband checked into hearing aids with bluetooth in them? I have a friend who has to have aids in both ears and he recently got this, works great to. His TV has bluetooth so it's not just the phone that it helps on.

He gets odd looks though when he's in public and talking to himself because there is no bluetooth headset visible :)
