Help Call quality concerns

It's a work in progress.

I was finally able to find someone who has the ONE on T-MOBILE to troubleshoot/duplicate the issues.

Same results,over-amplified/distorted sound quality w/BLUETOOTH on phone calls (BOTH ENDS,w/& w/o BEATS on),audio via streaming/music player is fine.

Also duplicated w/another B/T on my phone.
My B/T works fine on other non-HTC ONE phones.

I've been in touch w/HTC through the entire troubleshooting process, communicating w/the same team members each time,at the entry-level & TIER 2.The engineers are actually troubleshooting as we speak.

Just a guess here, but, perhaps the problem may be a result of a conflict w/T-MOBILE's HD VOICE & HTC's SENSE VOICE.I realize both ends of the phone conversation have to have HD VOICE for it to work, but, all calls are affected.
Anyway, even if this isn't the cause,I thought it was worth mentioning to the HTC VIP SERVICE/TIER 2,etc....

They've been keeping me posted w/o prompting,so,I'm confident they're working on it & I'll post here on a weekly basis or thereabouts w/updates.

Still in a holding pattern, just spoke w/HTC,nothing new from HTC on this.Only other thing I can think of is to visit an AT&T &/or SPRINT store & pair my BLUETOOTH w/their version of the HTC ONE in an attempt to duplicate these issues.

I've also used a wired headset to make calls & that works fine,so,there's definitely a BT-call issue.Any suggestions are welcome.

Still nothing from HTC on Call Quality/BLUETOOTH issues, but,in the meantime,I picked up the JABRA SPORT BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES:
Bluetooth Headset, Jabra SPORT *

Not only do they sound well streaming audio/FM Radio broadcasts,I'm actually having no call issues w/these,call quality is loud, clear & undistorted on both ends.

I also have the JABRA WAVE on the way:
Bluetooth Headset, Jabra WAVE
I'm guessing since they're similarly spec'd that I will have the same results.

I hate to stop using the MOTOROLA ELITE SLIVER:
Elite Sliver - Wireless HD Bluetooth Headset - Motorola Mobility LLC. USA

But,I'll set it aside until I move on to another phone,or,perhaps HTC will find a compatibility fix eventually.....................

*Of course JABRA introduced the successor to this:
The ultimate sports headset, JABRA SPORT Wireless+
ONE DAY after taking delivery of the original model...

Hi all,

I just activated an HTC one on Sprint 5 days ago and the call quality is very bad. When "on ear" and speaking to a friend on his land line, he notices a drastic difference in quality relative to my old Motorola XPRT phone. He describes the very same thing we are describing here....buzzing or static underneath the other person's words until they stop talking. Also, he speaks softly sometimes, or puts me on speakerphone and I can barely understand him because his voice cuts in and out.

Similarly, while I was on the phone with HTC about this yesterday, their hold music was doing the same thing, cutting in and out. It seems that anything with a low level will do that.

In the music recording world, we use a "noise gate" to reduce noise like hum on an electric guitar, and that's what it sounds like to me on the HTC one. When the other person stops speaking, the "gate" closes and we hear silence, until it detects signal (voice) and the "gate" opens again.

This is even more obvious when using the supplied earbuds. Right when the call is connected I can hear an abnormal level of noise, over and above what we're talking about, which is something I am NOT used to with my mobile phone. I have been on Sprint since 1997 (yikes) and the call quality has always been superior to any other carrier I've experienced...until this phone. Again, my old Motorola was like talking on a landline most of the time.

So I am really talking about two specific noise issues. Mainly, a buzzing or static while the other party is speaking, and to a lesser extent, a sort of general noise under everything.

I've also updated to the latest Sprint HTC one software (released 7/17/13), which said it included HD voice updates, but to no avail.

Best of luck everyone. Any new information please follow up.

I'd suggest the following:

1) Perform a factory reset (back-up data as desired, this erases EVERYTHING).

2) Contact SPRINT.They may be experiencing network issues in your area. They'll probably suggest #1,as this is a normal step in the smartphone troubleshooting process.

Please keep us posted on your results as they develop.

Thanks for the response Kolio. I've been trying to avoid a reset as it's a PITA. Plus, I've been looking for someone to post that a reset actually made a difference, and noone has.

I contacted both Sprint and HTC. HTC recommended I ask Sprint to reprovision my phone, which they did and it made no difference. Sprint also confirmed that there are no network issues in my area.

I would love to keep the HTC one. The software just seems a bit more adult to me. Less smiley faces (S4). But ultimately, I need it to be a phone and in my experience, the S4 wins that battle hands down.

I've had call quality issues of my own (BLUETOOTH).Normal calls are great, but, calls on B/T are much as you described w/your phone.

I've performed many resets since day one, most recently since the latest update from T-MOBILE & still no difference.I had some success w/a JABRA headset, but, that was short-lived & performed poorly soon after w/the ONE,as numerous other B/T headsets have.

I've even exchanged the suspected offending B/T (MOTOROLA ELITE SLIVER),& still no difference, yet, the B/T works fine on other phones.

I'm suspecting your issues are most likely hardware-related,w/a Factory Reset as the last attempt before returning the phone to HTC for warranty service.

I finally did just that w/mine today,as I use my B/T extensively & have exhausted all other solutions.

I too have call quality issues on 3 in UK, mainly when I make the call I get the hissing when the other person talks not used earbuds yet so nothing to report there. On incoming calls the hissing is non existent. This thread has been on the go for months now so surely HTC should have addressed this problem by now.

here is a call quality issue, if anyone can help me. i know exactly what is going on..

when using the phone.. and lets say.. i have to unlock my door to go into my place. i hold the phone between my ear and my shoulder.. however, while doing this.. people cant hear me..

the reason i believe is because i am covering up the hole in the back that detects background noise..

is there a way to disable this option?

Well,if anyone has been following along (or cares for that matter) :boring: :p

I've FINALLY found a BLUETOOTH headset that plays nice w/both phone calls & audio playback:

Sliver II Bluetooth Headset by Motorola - A Google Company

In a nutshell,I tested no less than 5 B/T's & cross-checked w/5 different phones & this was the only one that works well w/my T-MOBILE HTC ONE.

I was actually able to duplicate my issues on another T-MOBILE HTC ONE,so,even if not widespread, there is definitely something going on with B/T & T-MOBILE's variant of the ONE.

As awesome as this phone is,it was equally frustrating to not fully enjoy/utilize the B/T features w/o the party on the other end complaining/hanging up due to atrocious call quality.

To say that I'm glad to have this issue in my rear view mirror would be a gross understatement. ;)

Now,perhaps I won't be looking too hard at the "NEXT BEST THING" on the horizon.....:)

I have a bone stock HTC One on T-MOBILE in an area with almost 100% reception and some people have been complained it sounds like I'm underwater when talking to me. I did have to have my original HTC replaced. I don't remember any complaints with my first phone so I'm wondering if this is a phone issue. I also noticed it seems to happen more commonly with cell to cell calls and not cell to land line or vice versa.

Just bought my HTC one a few days ago. Had the exact walkie talkie problems/ hissing that is being described. Took the phone back, they claimed they heard nothing, hassled me a long time before finally replacing it. The new one has the same problem. I know its not sprint, because my dad got a evo 4g from a friend and my mom bought a new galaxy s4 and theyre fine.

Its really annoying, I am trying to decide if I should swap the phone out for a galaxy s4, iphone 5s, or just deal with the shitty phone quality..

simple.

if the call quality is your major concern and the htc one is not meeting your demands in that department, don't settle for anything. take it back and get another device.

done.

I've had this issue since I got phone about a month ago. It's not all the time, but I just noticed it really bad on a work conference call.

I'll be on the call (either in headphones, speaker, or phone to ear) and the person on the other line cuts in and out. Sometimes, lowering the max volume down one and then back to max will fix.

Ideas?

Not sure if it is any better with the kit kat upgrade, but I have been told BT sounds like I have my windows open.

This is the exact problem I have, which is annoying. All my other HTC phones were really good.

I just turned off the "ring louder in pocket" and "quiet on pick up" options. So we'll see if that helps.

Update: Sorry for the long delay in an update, but nothing I do seems to help with this issue. If I am not holding the phone in my hand, directly next to my face, people can't hear me. It is the single most annoying problem with this phone.
