Call quality

Not happy with the call quality, outgoing mic, on my 6902 on AT&T. It's quite garbled. Is this a case of the phone not getting LTE or is this the case with all Z1's. Is there a setting I'm missing? TIA. Btw I can hear fine on my end.
 
Relatively strong then.

Has it always been this way? What happens if you use the sound recorder app to record your own voice? Is it garbled or normal?
