Calling All Grammar Nazi's

Besides, it's either impossible or not worth the huge amount of effort to get any modern word processor or internet forum software to allow two consecutive spaces.

I have to disagree on one point-- Open Office/ Libre Office accepts double-spaces fine. There is a checkbox setting under the Spellchecker settings, if I recall correctly.

This has probably been pointed out somewhere in the 30 odd pages but the title of this thread is a grammar foul... Nazi has a posessive apostrophe s on the end.... Should be "Calling all gramma Nazis"

Burnnn on you OP! Hah

I always double after a period too!!! That's the way it sposed to be...but my kids tellme I'm wrong and their teachers don't like it that way....I blame mediocracy and laziness....no really I do!!!
I also always indent 5 spaces for a new paragraph...which apparently is also becoming faux pas...

Excessive and poor use of ellipsis marks are irritating. I understand. This is informal and you want to show a pause. However, ellipses were not intended to replace the period. I always imagine the person hyperventilating at their computer while they struggle to finish a complete thought.

And yet you have no issue with the extra periods? Ellipses are three periods. Period.

... and I, for one, am overly fond of using them.

Wait... What?

Grammar Pup agrees.

I don't have an issue with light use of ellipses in informal writing. Such as in your example.

Just when someone types like this...Did I finish my statement...? Or am I just showing a pause...? You'll never know... Maybe I have to omit a large amount of info...Perhaps it's because I want you at the edge of your seat as you read every sentence... I don't know... Perhaps people feel the need to reflect the pause in their thinking as they type...

One period is enough to show that you finished your sentence. You don't need three of them.

I wanted to know what happened next.

Ditto on Word as I recall.

I humbly sit corrected. :o

What about excessive question marks and/or exclamation points?!?!!!

I use the ellipsis quite a bit in forum posts and casual emails. I hear myself speak the words that I type, so if my brain trails off, you'll get one...

I don't use them in formal writing.
