Root Calling Problems! - Should I update radio?

Hi all,

I've been having a very annoying problem recently with almost every ROM I have tried. I suspect that I may need to update my Radio but I don't want to try unless I'm sure this is the problem (I understand that it's riskier than flashing a custom ROM).

When I answer my phone (only from certain people) I will not be able to hear them, however whenever I speak my voice will come straight back through the speaker into my ear. I can ring anyone perfectly fine which is strange.

I have tried this with both Oxygen and Cyanogenmod ROMS (both on Froyo and Gingerbread).

My radio baseband is:
32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14

I think this may be quite a long time out of date? Is this the problem?

Many thanks as this problem is driving me nuts!

-Rich

P.s. I've just restored my phone back to stock, I still have the same problem :(

What RUU did you use? That would have flashed a radio.

*Just googled RUU so forgive me if this is the incorrect information*

I have clockwork mod recovery, I'm pretty sure I obtained the latest version from ROM manager before I loaded my first custom ROM.

Also I originally Rooted my device with Unrevoked.

Cheers!

Note: I do not have S-OFF, I'm not sure if that's useful information or not :S

This be the latest RUU, I think it has the latest .27 radio, but if your on Orange that is not the best one to have. Flash it anyways if you like an see if it sorts your problem. I doubt it though.

EDIT: ooops http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14243239/RU...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe

More Edits: I have the PB99 with the .27 radio.

Ok I'll give it a shot. Is there anything else you can think of that this may be?

I'm kicking myself for rooting/flashing ROMs now :(

A couple of quick questions InfernalByte (thank you for taking the time to answer them so far by the way :) )

Do I need S-OFF to do this?

How exactly do I go about installing this new RUU? Do you have a guide you could point me towards (I'm currently looking now).

No you don't need S-Off, an RUU will give you S-On anyways. Download this file put it in the root of your Gold card if you need one. Switch yor phone on by holding vol down and the power button. The whole process takes about 6 mins.

Erm, sorry to have to ask... did you leave a step out there? Does holding vol down start this process?

And in what situation would I need to make a Goldcard? if the process fails?

Thanks again!! :)

Edit: After some quick reading I guess you mean power down then boot up into HBOOT and connect to PC. Then run the utility on the desktop in Windows?

I'm still looking up if I need a goldcard lol :)

Nope. put the PB99IMG.zip file in the root directory of your sd card. Disconnect from your PC. Switch your phone off. hold the vol down button down, then press and hold the power button at the same time until the screen goes white.

Nake sure the file is called PB99IMG.zip Windows like to rename it .zip.zip sometimes.

If the CID comes back as failed you'll need a gold card. No damage will be done.

If you know your branded you'll need a gold card, see SU roots sigi on rooting.

Ok I won't touch it for now :)

I just found this on another site:

"It's GSM. But to confirm, power off your phone and then power it on while holding vol down. Up at the top it should say "BRAVO" if it is gsm and "BRAVOC" if it is CDMA."

My phone reads BRAVO is the HBOOT menu. Could it still be CDMA?

I want to note because I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the thread. if you use this RUU, it will unroot your phone.

Cheers for all the help people! :)

I've been doing a bit more reading in my breaks at work today and here's what I'm planning on doing:

1. Create a goldcard using this guide: How To: Create a Goldcard | TheUnlockr

2. Download the original RUU for my Three UK Desire from here:
[ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs - xda-developers
I am going to choose the RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.20.771.3_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.0 6.00.02_2_release_124822.exe from the GSM section.

3. Continue with the following steps in this guide for unrooting:
How To: Unroot the HTC Desire | TheUnlockr

Any input into if these steps are correct or not would be fantastic :)

I've got to wait a bit before doing this anyway as I have the microSD adapter on the way.

Thanks again!

Just to let anybody who is experiencing the same problems as me I think I've solved it:

All down to the network provider....

Oops :o

I should have checked this first but unfortunately for me the network being crappy must have just coincidentally coincided at the same time I rooted my phone.

Three's statement was that they are aware of the problem and the engineers are on the case. It's been around for about 2 weeks now though....

Thanks for all the info in the thread though, at least I understand my phone a bit better now ;)
