CalyxOS

Ok. I can gig it. But do I need a special cable to connect? I only have usb x micro usb cables. This is my first google device and I see the usb x google phone connection (don’t even know what that is called).
i believe it is a usb type c cable......you might need an adapter for your mac.

So it came with a usb female x c male.

Assuming they make a usb make by c female where might I find one?
so it should come with a usb type c male to male cable that can be attached to your phone and then to a charging brick or a computer. does you mac have a usb type c outlet?

The new 4 comes with these...

Am I correct in thinking this is an unlocked phone. I want to be sure so I can have time to return it if it want what was advertised.

yep those are usb type c cables. if your mac does not have usb type c then you will need to find an adapter to connect to it.

as far as your phone goes.....you only enabled oem unlocking.....you did not unlock the bootloader. you will need to use a fastboot command to unlock the bootloader....that is all what the sceenshot you posted earlier says.

no worries....keep us posted.
Hey, sorry to revive this old thread... If I should start a new one, just let me know.

I'm looking to set up a Pixel with CalyxOS as well... but while I'm tech savvy generally... I've never bothered to learn *anything* about smartphone tech. Like zero. I have iPhones, but I'm just a user and let apple/verizon do whatever they do to set me up.

Might I fire off a couple of basic questions?

Thx

sure, i'm gonna be in and out for the rest of the night.....so if i do not answer i'm sure somebody will.

start off which pixel you have.

So Pixel + CalyxOS = secure(ish?) "phone".
But it seems that it's really just an app platform with wifi connect-ability for internet.

What about the phone itself? How do phone services work, and do they conflict with CalyxOS in terms of security?

I'm perhaps unclear on what a "locked" vs "unlocked" phone is, but I gather it means you can use any phone provider. Is this approximately right? Is "unlocked" a requirement to get this to work?

never used it, but here is what they say about it:
https://calyxos.org/about/

its more then an app platform as it looks like a lot of system apps have been tweaked by the rom for instance when an un-encrypted phone call is coming in, you will get a special alert. you can't do this without modifying system apps.

I have none. I am trying to decide if this is the right move for me. That's why I'm here to ask questions.
definitely get a pixel phone because to get calyx os you will need to root the phone and pixles are pretty easy to root. i believe the calyx website should have all the info on how to root it and install the custom rom.
