Root Camera and custom ROMs?

Claghorn

Android Enthusiast
I have always thought that the MIUI 2.4.20 v3 ROM's camera works great. It's a GB ROM. The camera on the Triumph is not functioning on ICS and Jellybean, that's probably why you are reading that in several posts. The Devs are working feverishly to get the camera working on these ROMs :D.

Is there a triumph custom ROM that makes the Camera work better? I keep reading descriptions that say "the camera doesn't work with this ROM". I'm trying to write a custom camera app, and have found that EV doesn't seem to be reported by my Triumph:

android - getExposureCompensation called from preview callback always returns 0 - Stack Overflow

It would be nice to get the camera working better for my testing while waiting for Nikon/Samsung android cameras to arrive.

Camera should be working ok on most Froyo & CM7/Gingerbread-based MIUI ROMs. There are a few 2.2/2.3 ports from other devices floating around that have a busted camera I think, but those are few & far between.

Thanks for the info, but I'm wondering if the camera hardware can even report exposure. If you take a picture with your triumph using the newer ROM, does the exposure get recorded in the metadata for the .jpg file? If there is a real value there, that would be a good sign :-).

Looking at the "details" tab in Windows on a picture I took over the weekend on CM7 shows no values for exposure time, ISO, f-stop, etc. Don't know if that helps answer your question.

EDIT: Same result for older pics taken on other ROMs. Also, pics taken with my OV have same missing values- maybe this is not so unusual for phone cameras?

Maybe so. I hope the upcoming android cameras Nikon and Samsung are releasing implement all the APIs described as being possible in the android docs. Thanks for the info.
