Root Camera and MikG3.1

Anybody else having camera/video issues with Mik3.1?

I had video issues with 3.0 and 3.1, choppy and sound outta sync. Then tonight I noticed my camera was starting to act up a little too, hard to explain, some images looking like two pics combined or something, like if you didn't advance the film all the way to the next frame on an "old timey" camera. LOL.

Couple thoughts....just thinking out loud here...

First, there were some sort of video issues, although I think HD video issues, where it was suggested in theMikMik forum (and perhaps at ROM download link itself at that forum) that the card read ahead speed should be set to 512 max so check that setting and see if that helps.

Read ahead setting can be found in the MikTweaks settings/app on your phone under "Miscellaneous Options"

Also, I personally had a problem with my camera with MikG 2.56 when I was using a custom kernal (More Freedom). Wasn't happening with everyone but it appeared that the kernal was undervolted and for some reason my phone and camera didn't like it. The camera would free, shutter-start/stop and force close. Flashing the stock kernal fixed my camera problem.

My read ahead is at 512, now I am on Anthrax, hmmm...

Maybe, I didn't really have any issues with the stock whereas I've experienced 3 bootloops with Anthrax.

When you say "bootloops" is is a full shutdown and reboot...or just a "hot reboot" where there is a quick sorta "refresh" of the phone and back to where you left off??

Reason I'm asking is because there are KNOWN ISSUES with MikG 3.11 and "hot reboots" Check out my thread here:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...eboots-my-problem-findings-your-thoughts.html

Your reboots might be related to your kernal, might be related to MikG 3.XX and might have nothing to do with your Camera!! Sorry I can't give more information but still trying to figure everything out as it relates to my own phone.

Others here can hopefully give you better guidance as to kernals and throttling and clocking but, like I said, might be worth a reflash of the stock kernal....

Which version of anthrax? I've had good luck with the test version on my phone. He wasn't sure if it would boot but it does. Give that one a try to see if it helps.

+1

My father in law runs MikG 3.11 with Anthrax and has NO PROBLEMS. Then again, that's his phone (and sanity29)...not mine or yours!!...but try it out!:D

I'm running anthrax v 9 with MikG 3.11 rightn ow till Tommy's classic drops.

No issues, although I've never had random reboots or hotboot issues with MikG

When I say "bootloops" is when my phone goes to the boot animation and gets stuck there until I pull the battery.

I had the test9 kernel with 3.0 for about two months and suffered about 6 bootloops over this time. This time I thought I'd try version 4, so far not better, time to make a change.

Btw, I'm still on 3.1, haven't updated yet.

Ok...just checking....different issue than the "hot reboots" that I linked too above. Those reboots don't need a battery pull.

Sorry there...good luck...

I've heard that Anthrax and Lionfish have been running decent with MikG 3.XX. I am still on stock trying to tweak a few things before I get to changing kernals. Don't want to change too many variables at once while I try to figure stuff out.

Just a quick note on pulling the battery - You should never have to do that.

If your phone gets stuck in that situation, where it won't leave the bootanimation (or even if it gets stuck on the splash screen), if you press and hold both volume buttons and the power button, the phone will automatically reboot. If you're worried about it getting stuck in a bootloop again, after holding the buttons, when the phone begins to turn off, let go of all the buttons except for the Volume-Down button. Holding it will get you to the Bootloader screen, where you can then get to recovery to wipe caches, or flash something else.

Just a neat trick I recently picked up ;).

Thanks, good to know these things. I don't really care for having to open her up and pull the battery.

I think it would be good if we had a rooted tips and tricks with all this kind of good info in 1 place. I love all the knowlege from you and Ocn and everyone else but when I need it I cant find it.

I surely didnt know that trick either. I'm guessing since he just recently picked up on it not many people know about it

Agreed.

I started thinking about this because someone was mentioning that the new HTC devices wouldn't have removable batteries, and someone said that there is always some way of rebooting the device if it gets stuck in those cases. I wondered if the same was the case with the EVO, and remembered that in stock recovery, the keypresses I mention bring up the menu (which I learned from the Tacoroot method), so I wondered if that same sequence would do anything while the phone was on, and decided to try it when my phone started bootlooping or getting stuck at the splash screen. Lo and behold, it did! :D

Well, unfortunately I experienced another bootloop but, your method worked like a champ. :)

But, the bootloop thing is pissing me off, this is the second time that it has happened during game play. Do you guys think this is a kernel thing?

I have a bootloop section in the troubleshooting guide. It talks about setcu settings and other similar things

Back in November I tried to piece together everything I had learned on this forum since I joined in Aug and the troubleshooting guide is what resulted. It is by no means the end all guide for evo issues but its a good place to start to try to fix your own problems before posting a thread.
