Help Camera and video player not working

I got my DHD off a friend as they bought a new one, it looks like some water damage or LCD damage as there is light coming thru the bottom, also a water type Mark. However not very noticeable when on I thought I'd mention incase it has to do with the prob.

The camera and camcorder don't work, when I click them it opens then goes back to main screen.

I've tried restore to factory reset, and tried fx camera and taking the battery out. None solve the prob and fx camera force closes every time I click it.

Does it sound damaged or is there something else I can try?

The firmware is just stock and it says there are no updates

Doesn't sound too good. What software are you running, as in Gingerbread etc? You can find this out via settings>about phone>software.
 
Unless I'm wrong it sounds like its damaged. You've tried a 3rd party camera app and that didn't work so it sounds more like hardware problem. If you cant update the software to anything newer then I can't see what other options software side you can do.
 
THanks I assumed it would be this.

Wuld it be worth me flashing it with a newer rom?. It's the only thing I haven't tried, but thinking if I start fiddling en maybe it will stop working all together lol
 
And even if you decided to go the custom rom route I doubt it would make a difference either. I think if you want it fixed you'd better get in touch with HTC.
