Help camera blurry and screen issue

unununium

Newbie
Got a new s4 last week. Problem is the camera seems to take blurry fuzzy out of focus shots 90% of the time. Even in good light conditions or with the flash on. If the subject moves evrn slightly the shot is unusable. I've tried messing with the settings and putting anti shake on but nothing works. The pictures are also incredibly noisy.

Also, there's an issue with the screen; I can see the screen refresh lines flowing down the screen particularly on white or grey backgrounds (like most web pages) It's not bad enough to obscure anything but very annoying, I dob't expect this from a 600 pound phone. Is this all normal or do I have a faulty model. I can show example camera pictures if needed. Thanks.

1. have you check your cam settings?
2. how about the cam lens? is it clean/clear?
3. how about the video?
4. for the cam, it would take a second before the lens sets focus on the subject you are getting. . .

Yeah, it's brand new. I removed the film around the lens to no avail.
Even if I focus it first manually same thing happens. If my hands or the subject move even slightly then the shot is blurry.
haven't really had a chance to properly test video yet.

I've had numerous cheaper camera phones that perform better than this which makes me think there must be something wrong. I'll get some pics uploaded to demonstrate when I get in from work.

On an unrelated note I've noticed the iso setting is greyed out and locked to auto no matter what mode the camera is in. Why even have it on the menu if you can't change it.

in that case, get your warranty card and have it checked :)

I see you already removed the film. Most people I have seen didn't even know there is one. So yes, warranty it is me thinks.

Have you tried setting anti-shake option to on

Also remember, when you hear the click, the photo hasn't actually been taken.
Keep the phone still for a second or so after you hear it

Use the camera while resting the phone on an immovable object and see if the pics are clear. If not, either the auto focus is too sensitive or there is a problem with the phone.

You can adjust the ISO on some modes, like Beauty Face. But not many of the modes let you do that. You might try to pull down a camera app like Camera-FV-5 to see if it makes any difference. My S4 has been great to take pictures with, especially with the latest firmware.

But between that and the lines on the screen, it sounds like you may have received a bad phone.

Yeah. Thanks for the help guys. I did say on my original post I have tried anti shake.

Anyone else know anything about the screen strobing? In more detail it seems intermittent and not dependant on brightness level but when it happens it's only really visible on white or grey screens, its like flickery refresh lines going vertically down the sceen. Looks like what a tv looks like when you try and film it but a bit more subtle. I'm wondering if this is a screen fault or just me being too picky, can anyone look closely at their screen on white or grey pages and see if you notice it?

Just looked at several apps with white screens, and even with the camera app with the camera pointed at white paper. Brightness turned all the way up. No flickering/strobing at all.

If you can do a warranty exchange, that's the route I'd be going right now.
