Help Camera Click Sound

i know if you turn your sound off on your phone will work but outside of that i dont know

I've tried putting my phone into vibrate and silent modes and both do not eliminate the camera shutter sound. Further, I've also turned down the media volume to zero (while in the music app) but this also did not eliminate the camera shutter sound.

How exactly are doing "turning your sound off on your phone"?

on mine, I just went into the camera app, then hit the volume down button until it was at the lowest, and that eliminated the camera sound for me. Since the volume isn't the zoom on this phone, I figured it was worth a shot. I'm not sure if it's only camera volume affected by it, though it does look like it did slide my "Music, video, games, & other media" slider down too. I'd try it again from within the camera app itself, see if it helps.

No dice either. I still hear that nice and loud 'click' sound when I take pictures with my GNex :( Is it possible to remove the sound via rooting and if so, how?

:( Maybe I got a lemon phone... BUT is there still a workaround via rooting!? I really don't want to go about having to replace my phone... it's going to be quite a hassle.

I'm pretty sure that some regions (i.e. countries) are required to have the camera sound always audible. I'm in the UK, and I can turn the volume down just fine, eliminating the shutter sound. Are the people having issues in the UK, or elsewhere?

I replaced the cameraclick.ogg file with a silent mp3 file of the same name. It silences the click but not the focus.

My phone is a manufacture-unlocked device for the HK region... maybe therein lies the problem. I guess it's time to root my device...
