Camera Defaults to Landscape

My beloved HOX+ has developed a bizarre and irritating issue with the camera: When I fire it up, the camera opens in landscape even if I am holding the phone in portrait orientation - the icons at the top are on their sides, and the picture count is down the right-hand edge. In order to be able to take portrait pictures, I have to tip the device over onto its left side before bringing it vertical again to trick it into orientating correctly.

Has anyone else suffered this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you for the suggestion, but I have just tried this and it didn't help - the camera still launches in "landscape" however I'm holding the phone.

This is proving entirely frustrating. I want to be able to launch the camera and start snapping, without having to waggle the blasted thing about to correct the orientation!

I must confess that I haven't, because it is one of those things I am extremely dubious about messing with. I was hoping there was an obvious solution I might have overlooked before I went tinkering with an aspect of the phone I might not be able to restore properly. "Place the device on a level surface" is an instruction rather more complicated than it seems.
