Camera Fix

any of you running 4.0.3?

I'm running a custom 4.0.3 ROM, flashed it just a day or two ago. The camera seems to have improved. for one, if its not focused, it will auto focuses first before taking an image. I don't recall having that even on 4.0.2

Also, launching the camera from lock screen is way faster than before now, it doesn't jump to the home screen first, but straight to the app. This will help those "opportunity shots" :D
 
they supports ICS, it works great for me.
most I like about this app is 'stable shot' mode.

with stocked camera app, I had to hold my arms tight (breathe too) and try not to move and press and hold then release button to get good pic consistantly.
with camera zoom fx, I didnt try that hard.. clicked the button and i could get better result.
(i expanded photo to see the details.. its like i was using a stand)

great app, i'd recommand to everyone.

I usually tap the subject to focus and hit the release button gently before it times out.

Tip: If you hold your finger on the tap to focus square and drag it around, the exposure will adjust in-line with the focal point. It's similar to tapping to focus, but the more methodical approach of dragging the square around allows the exposure to adjust the partial metering of the camera. I would love it if there were a mode where these two features were decoupled as per separate AE Lock and AF Lock buttons on an SLR.

I think the press and hold technique is more for stability. Even though you dont reconize or feel it tapping will cause the phone to shake a little. Which in turn comes out a blurry pic. Kinda like shooting a gun you want to squeeze the trigger not jerk it. Same
princible(sp?) applies here.


Side note- I really need the auto correct for the browser.

Camera FX, IMO, does it more, er, ergonomically? I find it easier to hold and steady the camera when I don't have ro be holding down the one little shutter button to get autofocus and take the shot. MMV and all that, but I find Camera FX easier and more convenient to use, and because it's easier to hold steady and focus I get better shots. But like someone else said, isn't have options the beauty of Android? :D
 
WOAH, it's autofocusing very nicely, even in low light!

Takes like a 1/2 second but much better than a lot of other phones I've used!

Well, low light is all I have right now! Interesting. Will have to test in some brighter light tomorrow. Also got the "streaks off light sources" but my lens was uber smudged up!
 
This is all good news, IMHO.

The stock camera app may be clunky, but it's only software limited. There could be updates that drastically improve the camera function. And if you can't wait, there are alternatives.
 
I didn't dig into camera apps yet, but interested in one better than stock camera.
How about HDR+? Is it as good as Camera Zoom FX?

I tried the free version of HDR and I couldn't figure out to take normal pictures. It is probably better for HDR shots, but the interface is clunkier and isn't good enough to replace the stock app.

I personally think Camera Zoom FX has the best interface and is polished enough to replace the stock app. If you turn on autosave, it basically handles the same way as stock.

You can also try out Camera360 which is free. I've taken some shots with it and the picture came out well. The interface is not bad, but it can be a little clunky at times. One thing that annoyed me was it was harder to get into your album after taking a picture.
