Welcome to AF!

That sample image is heavily compressed, so the first thing I'd check is that the camera is set to use the best resolution available.

If you are agreeable, I can also move this thread to our dedicated Galaxy S5 sub-forum, where other users of the device will be able to offer advice.

Thanks for the reply, u are welcome to move the post. The image was set at 16mp,HDR auto and mode auto.sorry
I'm not able to find a plastic cover on the lens? :/

I've seen that kind of image from certain Samsungs before, and iPhones as well. I'm in China.

Probably not going to like this, but I think that S5 you got might be a Chinese knock-off. The cameras in them are usually dreadful, and that pic you posted is typical of one.

hi mikedt is there any way to tell if it is a knock off? I downloaded kies on my pc to check for updates and the model number and s/n wouldn't work but I thought I was doing something wrong? :(

Or download Samsung Kies onto your computer and plug it in. It's more reliable. It's not supposed to recognize a non-Samsung original phone.

Only one small, eensy, weensy, tiny problem with that idea... how many times have I seen on these forums that genuine Samsung phones won't connect to Kies. ;)

I did try kies but it told me that the model n s/n number were incorrect, I have downloaded the phone info app to help me find some info.
to be honest a lot of it I have no clue about
this is what I know so far!
model :s-m g900h
version:4.4.2
but there is no
csc codes they r just blank?
no country of origin
Knox warranty was also blank?
not looking so far but I'm still going through the dummies guide.

When I first saw the attached image I immediately thought this is a fake Samsung. It's extremely fuzzy, pixellated and the colour is off. There's a cheap knock-off Galaxy Note in the house somewhere, and the photos that takes look exactly the same. I think they use similar image sensors to what you find in $5 webcams. Knock-off iPhones can be the same.

Yeh, I wouldn't rely on Kies for actually detecting if it's a real Samsung or a phoney. I found it's not 100% reliable by any means and frequently fails to recognize there's a Samsung device connected.

One way of determining what you've got is to go into settings > device information and look at the kernel information. If it says "CST" and not "KST" in the build date, then it's almost definitely a Chinese phoney.

Never had that problem though, through 5 years with Samsung. It's worth a shot

I am afraid that a lot of users with genuine Galaxy phones, do have a problem connecting to Kies or their PC's...

Can't Connect to PC

S3 Mini "Unkown Device" when connected to PC

Cannot connect to Kies issues

connecting to kies

and the list goes on and on.

So, not being able to connect to Kies is no guarantee of a phone being fake. Also, why spend time and effort downloading a programme like Samsung's Kies to your PC and then trying to connect your phone to it, which may, or may not, work when, instead, you can, as per #1.4 of Galaxy S5, Fake Clone or Genuine - Dummies Guide, download an app in 10 seconds and see if you have Knox warranty. ;)
