^^agreed. Great idea but not practical especially given the tight curve of the lens.
Remember dumb phones (especially Sony Ericsson) used to have a slide cover. They should bring them back depending on my next question..
So bit off topic but are camera lenses made from like gorilla glass (like the display)?
Mine came with a protective film. I removed thinking it was just the shipping protection. Well it was not so easy to remove makes me think it was a "protector". It had a circle cut out for the actual lens which gets me even more convinced I should have left it.
All that said I searched for camera and back cover protectors on Amazon. All I could find was full body films which was fine I guess. $8 for an ArmorSuit kit. It has the camera cover with a hole in the center. The hole will prevent the concern of a cover others mentioned but the very slight thickness should protect the important part of the glass lens cover when you set it down. Also remember the actual lens is already under the glass but film is easier to replace than the glass.
Also I ordered and installed an AmFilm edge to edge HD front film. The installation was easy with some care and common sense. Everyone I ask or show cannot tell I have a cover. It also does not fingerprint as bad as the glass. I am verry happy.
