Camera Shutter Sound

I have the Optimus elite for Virgin Mobile and am wondering if there is a way to silence the camera shutter for the stock camera application? It gets really annoying when I try to take a picture when people are around, and I can't figure out a way to make it silent. I currently do not have a rooted phone too.
 
All I can think of is deleting the sound files for the camera shutters. I think that didnt work for someone but its worth a try. If you want to root, follow the instructions in the "root with apk" thread in the all things root section.
