Root Camera stuck in black and white after first time Root with aahk

Hi guys,

first time post so be gentle....

firstly I am VERY new to ROOT and everything associated with it, I am also new to using my phone for anything other than the basic things so if I need to provide any info about my phone or what I've done please just ask dont assume I will know that I should provide it :)

Basically I ran aahk to root last night, everything seemed to work ok, until I came to take a picture today and the camera is stuck in black and white. I have rebooted but it didn;t work. I have googled it and tried reinstalling the camera, I have also tried another camera program but its the same.

I presume this must be due to the rooting, but could it be a coincidence and its actually a hardware problem ?

REALLY wanna solves this guys, as I cant afford to buy a new phone and i love taking pictures,

really no ideas ?

if I used aahk to flash back to factory settings would this solve it ?
I REALLY dont want to have to do this as I dont wanna loose everything :(

I literally just ran aahk,

i realise I am woefully unqualified to do this sort of thing, but i was sold by the benefits and supposed ease of rooting, that I went ahead without really knowing the full risks and without really knowing what I was doing.

I realise that now, and trust me, I am gutted and wish I could go back in time and not bother, trouble is I cant, and now I am desperate to try sort this as I use the camera on my phone each day for recreation and work.

CDP has said exactly what I wanted to say :)

Now that you are rooted, the AAHK will have put ClockWorkMod on your phone. You can now make a backup of your current setup. Once you've done that, you will be able to flash a custom ROM... Sense-based like the stock ROM or Vanilla Android and then try the camera out... I am sure it will be fine :)

yes I have I downloaded it to try delete the games that come with the phone (from orange) this is why i first wanted to root my phone. But when I tried to uninstall a game it crashed and my phone then had a blue android icon with a speech bubble and exclamation mark, and would not turn on. I needed to remove the battery to start things,
 
By flashing a new ROM, you will loose all data and contacts. You can download SMS Backup and restore from the market to take care of SMS (& MMS - not sure if it's the same app or not). Your contacts can be sync'd with Gmail (always a good idea, for if you loose/change phones). You can use Titanium to back all of your apps and data up - this can be restored later.

To back your apps/data up, you go in to the app and touch "Backup and restore" in the centre at the top, then the white page with the tick on it top right. It calculates the scenarios... select "Backup all user apps + system data" and let it do it's thing. Once you have backed up your data, you will be able to restore it when you flash a new ROM on there.

Next come out of TB, download a ROM to your computer and put it (still zipped) on the root (not in any folders) of your SD card. EDIT - make a note of the name of the ZIP

Turn off and back on again (when you turn your phone back on, do so while holding down the volume down button, to in to recovery). This will start ClockWorkMod, where you will be able to make a backup of your current settings/ROM and also flash a ROM on to your phone.

When you are in CWM (it should be a black screen with some cyan text on it and will say "ClockWorkMod Recovery v.5.x.x.x), you need to use the volume keys to navigate up and down and the power key to select.

Before you carry on, let's make a backup of your phone as it currently is. Use the volume keys to navigate to "backup and restore" and then select "backup" - this will store an exact copy of things as they are now on your SD card so that, should anything go wrong, you can put things back to how they are now.

Next, go down twice and select "wipe data/factory reset" - let it do it's thing and return to this menu - repeat this and select "wipe cache partition - let it do it's thing again. Once you have completed a full wipe, head to "apply update from sdcard" and then navigate to find the ROM you put on your SD card and select it.

Once your phone has done it's thing, you just need to head to "reboot system now" and your phone will reboot in to the ROM you have just flashed. The first time it boots, it may take a little longer, but it won't be anything to worry about.

Once you've put a new ROM on, you can put your apps back on by using Google Play. If you install Titanium Backup, you can then restore your app data. It is generally not a great idea to restore system apps/data, but safe to do so with any user apps/data.

If things are not like this, then let us know immediately, before carrying on... better to stop and check if it's anything different :)
 
As I say... post here if there is any point where it says something on the screen that you are unsure about :)
 
can i backup my contacts by putting them on my simcard?
also, will this wipe everything from my memory card too ? as a lot of games are on my memory card,

sorry, just the idea of wiping my phone is daunting at the mo....

also, any suggestions for which rom I should use ? really just looking for the stock, but smoother, as I like how it works :)

It's fine... ask all the questions you need.

I believe you can store your contacts on your SIM card, but I have never done it. If you sync your phone with your Google account, it is actually with your contacts in your email. If you then either change phones/loose your current one/whatever else, you can recover them easily.

You will loose nothing from the SD card - there's no need to worry there :)
 
You can download SMS Backup & Restore, which can back your texts up... think there are also apps that do the same with your call logs :)

If it help settle you any, the first thing you do in CWM is to make a backup of your current system... it is like an image of everything on your phone, exactly as it is now. If something goes wrong, which it shouldn't, you can just restore it and, hey presto, you are back to as you are now :)
 
No... the only time you need to plug in is while you put the ROM.zip on the root of your SD card.

What I described (the batch backup part of Titanium) may only be possible on the paid version... I got the paid version straight away (only
 
I understand... as I said in an earlier post, if all else fails, we can run the RUU and it would return you to stock, unbranded HTC firmware :)
 
The best part is, once it's paid for, it can be used on any of your devices (on any future phone you have) :)

EDIT - I put it on my tablet when I rooted it :)

There are 3 screen...

Overview... this will tell you several things... including some ticks next to Root access
HyperShell (Fast)
etc

Next (in a round cornered tab) is "Backup/Restore" touch that... it should list all your apps with symbols next to them on the right.

Above where it says schedule should be a magnifying glass and a white rectangle with a tick (touch that).

You are then taken in to the "Batch Backup/Restore" menu.

There is "Verify Backups" and a couple of options and then "Backup"... the third option should be "Backup all user apps + system data" (run is to the left)... press it

That should be it... it should do it's thing :)

You may have an earlier version. Either press menu (I think that is how you do it in an earlier version) or head to Google Play and hit menu, my apps... this will take you to a list of all apps you have on your phone and let you update any that have an available update - it should be there and let you update :)
 
ah yes I have found it now (feel ******ed)
there is also an option for "restore missing apps + all system data" could that restore my camera to functioning properly ? (possibly avoiding everything else ? *hopes)
 
No... unfortunately not. What it does is restore any apps that you have backed up in TB that you have not been restored via the market when you restore stuff on your new ROM.

When you put a new ROM on your phone, make sure not to restore system apps from other ROM's... it can cause issues. When you put Android Revolution on your phone, it will not have any of the carrier bloatware stuff on it (which I guess you don't want anyway).
