Camera zoom for Galaxy Ace 2

My wife has the original Ace so i asked her and was shocked that aparently it doesnt have zoom no matter what app she uses!
that doesnt sound right to me, surely zoom isnt a hardware thing?
 
It took two replies from Samsung before they realised it definitely DOESN'T have zoom.
There's quite a few apps with zoom by the looks of it, just difficult to plump for one.

Have u tried any camera app that does give zoom on Ace2? Just so we know if its physicly possible?
Think i used to use a decent app called Camera 360 or something on an old phone
 
Id try just any old cam app to test if zoom function is capable of working on the Ace2 first tbh mate
 
Zoom is both a hardware and software thing, its either an optical zoom or a digital zoom. Anyway, phones typically do not have optical zoom, not even the Galaxy S3 or S4. The zoom you see on phones are usually just digital zoom. Basically it takes a picture and crops out the other parts, no different from taking an unzoomed picture and then cropping it in the editor.

I never even use zoom on my 8mp camera.
i just wonder why zoom is missing from the Aces :confused: ive had cheaper older phones that still had the option.
Also why cant 3rd party apps do zoom (on the original Ace anyway) ?
