Im trying to get my school email synced on the google mail app, but it's not recognizing. It is a gmail account but has a @asu.edu instead of a @gmail.com name.

Appalachian State? Yeah trust me, I tried. No dice. They've got some form of a protocol blocker or some other such nonsense. :(
Arizona State. For me it just says username/paswword is incorrect... i've tried 5 times or so making sure it's all correct but still nothing.

why not just program your regular gmail to pull it through pop?
that was my last resort, just seeing if it's possible so i could have the two account emails separated.

g to get my school email synced on the google mail app,

You cant use the Gmail app, you need to use the Mail app. If it still doent work, do what Phateless said, forward all your edu mail to your gmail, then you will get it almost instantly on the phone. Thats what I do with my edu address.

Dang that sucks, my school uses Gmail through their own domain address and it works.

Actually, you can access ASU's email through the GMAIL app. I just went through this, a few weeks ago trying to get my school email working on there. However I had a bunch of other issues, so it will most likely take you only a few minutes to get it set up.

I would call this number, its ASU's tech support. They helped me out and were very persistent on getting it to work. I talked to Robert McDaniel. Very professional and patient.

ASU Tech Support: 480-965-6500

I can confirm this. One of my friends has this set up in her gmail as well.

.edu Google Apps accounts work fine in the native Gmail app. I'm at UNCG, and we use GA. I set up my edu account as the primary account, so it would populate the calendar, then added my commodity Gmail account and another Gmail account. I can switch between the three accounts from within the app.

Make sure you have the correct username. For my school, we have three email addresses that all go to the same place: Firstname.Lastname@un.edu, Firstinitial.Lastname@un.edu, and Firstname.Lastname@unet.un.edu.

When setting up my schools email on my phone, the email address i enter in is firstname.lastname@un.edu, BUT my username is Firstinitial.Lastname.

I have a .edu gmail account (@cougars.ccis.edu to be exact) and I was able to do it just fine. Not sure of any technical reasons why it would or wouldn't work, however.

yes google apps emails work with it, I have my domain setup as my gmail account as well, however chrome to phone will not work with them

In case this helps someone avoid what I went through to figure this out, for me (Arizona State) it turns out that there is now a separate password for university applications and gmail. Log in to your university webmail and change your password there. Then use the new password for POP/IMAP client setup.

Excerpt from the admin at ASU:

1. Tap "Settings" on your Home screen.

6. Enter your ASURITE ID followed by @asu.edu and your Google POP/Chat password. For example, if your ASURITE ID is rsmith99, you would enter rsmith99@asu.edu.
