Help Can a Vibrant be a WiFi hotspot?

There is a world of difference between a "Galaxy S" and a "Galaxy S Vibrant" .... Enjoy :)

OK, so I'm confused.

Apparently (from reading this thread and others) with a semi-hack, called "root"ing, I could find some app that would let me use my Vibrant as a wifi hotspot for my laptop.

Otherwise, we Vibrant users can't do this since we have Adroid 2.1, instead of 2.2 (Froyo).

Unless we use some computer software called "Kies"

which might, or might not, let my computer recognize my Vibrant as a modem for Internet access.

And, although my Samsung Vibrant spends about 7 seconds of every re-boot blazing that it is a Galaxy S, really it isn't.

Right? Or, ...

Alright, So from what I gather while lurking, is that a galaxy S Vibrant is only slight different from the Galaxy S Captivate. The difference comes from the provider and not the phone its self. So i hope that at least answers some of your questions.

Look for Mobile AP under settings then wireless thats the phones wifi tether app its simple and easy to use you dont need root and you dont have to wait for 2.2

I just switched from a MyTouch 4g to a vibrant, mytouch had terrible battery life! I was trying for the life of me to find where the "hotspot" setting was on the vibrant, this was it! Thanks! Any idea how to setup a shortcut to enable this quickly like on the mytouch? Thanks again

actually if you outright by the vibrant or any google phone, for that matter, set up a google voice account, and where ever you have wifi connection you can call, recieve calls, and text as well. no monthly phone contract required. Though, the down side is that it does require wifi. but if you are at home or in the office alot, instant free unlimited call / text.

I am sorry to bother you.....I have a vibrant (had a mytouch4g) and ive had a google voice account for a long time. How do I make calls etc over wifi? I have not seen this anywhere, as my google account, actually calls a physical US number then connects it using my GV number. What am I missing here?
