Help Can anyone identify this?

Hi all!

This is my first post and i'm hoping someone could shed some light on a weird app/process running on my cheap and fairly obscure Android phone (Swees X538 which is manufactured by a Chinese company called Smartship as far as I can tell)..... Anyway, there's something called "yaoyiyao" running on my phone and I have no idea what it is or what it even does! I've tried googling but couldn't really find anything :(.

I've uploaded a few screenshots which could hopefully help (I hope). Cheers!

Morning funky, or should that be, 早安 (zao an) funky. :D

"yaoyiyao" means "shake", it's something Tencent does in some of their social networking apps. The idea is you shake your phone, and it finds other people in your area also shaking their phones and connects you with them. Did this Chinese phone come with something like WeChat or QQ? They are IM and social apps by Tencent, and are very popular in here in China.

BTW Yaoyiyao has become so popular, here's a little song about it....enjoy.

Oooh. So that feature is baked into Chinese ROMs? I have WeChat but I don't have that service running. I do have a WeChat process constantly running in the background though, that's annoying.

Looks like it is baked into the OP's China phone, that's assuming haven't installed anything that puts it there. It's not been baked into any China phones I've had, like the Oppo. Might not be anything to do with WeChat or QQ, Tencent does a whole load of mobile stuff.

This is what Baidu's Baike (encyclopaedia) has about it. It's in Chinese, so will have to Google translate it:

WeChat does run all the time if it's logged in, so it can receive IMs, which is what I want. :)

Thanks for the replies :). I don't have anything like WeChat or QQ installed or anything by Tencent. I actually don't have any Chinese apps installed as far as I can tell (except for that yaoyiyao process running in the background). I performed a full factory reset and it's still there, so i'm guessing it's part of the ROM. So is it safe to assume it's nothing top worry about then?

I was searching through my phone and looking for things that prevent it from going to sleep when the flip case is closed. It has a window on the flip case similar to the Samsung S-View and it shows the clock, but it won't disappear if I leave the phone alone (screen stays on)! My friend has the same model phone and his screen turns off about 5 seconds after he closes the flip case... Our settings and ROM versions are the same too! Also my screen timout resets to 15 seconds every time I reboot the phone and it's a bit annoying.

It's actually a pretty good phone for the price apart those couple of minor issues.

Cheers

Don't know anything about this phone at all. The screen should go off after a few seconds when you close the cover, like it would on Samsung phones. Uses a magnet to detect if the cover is closed. Can't think of why it doesn't, unless it's a bug. Nothing in the settings about that? Might be called "Smart cover".

If there's nothing Tencent pre-installed, this "yaoyiyao" (shake) process could be some feature of the phone. Does it have like shake to turn on, or answer a call, or skip a song etc.?

I can't seem to find anything that uses the shake feature. I'm starting to think maybe it's a left over part that they forgot to remove from the ROM for the non-Chinese market? I can't find any settings to do with the cover either :(... I might just ditch the cover as the phone auto sleeps/locks without it. My friends phone sleeps fine when the cover is closed (same model as mine).

One thing I did notice is his screen fades when it turns off (auto sleep or by pressing the power button)... Mine just turns off instantly without fading.

It's this phone: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Touch-D...001?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item56676402b9

And it's basically a rebrand of this phone: http://www.szsmartship.com/web/en/indu_pro.asp?id=558

Found a difference between mine and my friends phone! His System UI has a slightly higher version number than mine which is probably newer.... Still Android 4.4.2 though. In the permission it states it can prevent phone from sleeping and disable the screen lock (amongst many other things). Here's a screenshot of mine so you know what i'm talking about:

Managed to find a couple of stock ROMs for this phone (different versions) and i'm currently flashing it with SP flash tool. Getting the MT65xx Preloader drivers to install on Win 8.1 x64 was the tricky part.... Fingers crossed!

EDIT.... It worked!! The screen now switches off completely about 5 seconds after I close the flip case. I also no longer have that annoying screen timeout reset bug every time I reboot the phone :). It still has that yaoyiyao thing but it doesn't really bother me anymore.

The first ROM I tried just rooted my phone and didn't solve the issues. The second ROM solved all my issues but no longer has root access (not bothered about that anyway).

Root access is maybe in developer options :thumbsupdroid:

I can't see it, but I don't really need root access (my banking apps refuse to work with rooted devices). One of the ROM versions I tried had the "Superuser" process running in the background and was fully rooted, but it still had the same screen and timeout problems.

ShenZhen Smart Ship seems rather amateurish.

That looks like Apple iOS on there, not Android...

Same phone is probably being sold under several brands by various trading companies.

Wouldn't surprise me if they also do knock-off iPhones.

Yeah that picture does look like a bit of an iOS rip-off, but my phone came with stock Android KitKat... I think Smart Ship are just using some generic picture in that shot. Mine is branded by "Swees" and the quality seems pretty good for what I paid. It has a tough screen (feels very much like my 2013 Nexus 7, but smaller) and it's multi-touch IPS too which is always a good thing :).

This is what my screen currently looks like... Definitely not that generic iOS looking thing on the Smart Ship website:

I'll spend quite a bit on a decent tablet as it usually stays at home, but I always buy cheap phones as I end up somehow breaking them or losing them

Go ahead bro shake ur phone n see what happens lmao........:p:D

‘Yaoyiyao’ (meaning ‘shake’ in Chinese). With the ‘Xiutan’ function, a user can see how many planes pass by from different directions and districts by getting his or her smartphone facing the sky. The ‘Yaoyiyao’ function allows users to search for the nearby flights by shaking their smartphones.

Hi can you give me a link to the rom that worked please as having exact same issues with my x538. Cheers

Sorry for the late reply, I've not actually looked at this thread for a while .

I got the ROM & tools from here (had to register first): http://www.needrom.com/download/firmwareroottoolsrecovery/

My cheapo Swees (Smartship) X538 is still going strong and I've not had any issues since changing the firmware/rom. It seems to run pretty much anything quite comfortably considering it's not exactly high end .
