Yes it can be used, we recommend to use a Sony Ericsson original charger though.

in fact most charger that supplies enough current (>=850mA) can be used to charge the xperia ray. look at your charger if it's supplying enough current.
for the matter the sony charger specifies for 850mA @ 5V.
