Help Can I avoid duplication of files for my alarm settings?

In order to make the HTC clock widget play my selected mp3, I copied them into structural duplicates of the system-protected media folders to my SD drive (with only my content, of course). The problem is that the mp3s are already in my music folder in main storage, where I also want them to be, but I don't want duplication of these files. The storage-saving shortcuts which I tried to use instead of copied files are not new to the computing world, nor to Linux, but Android Linux (or something) ignored my shortcuts. Is it possible to somehow create working shortcuts for Android systems?

I have considered just turning it all over to third-party alarm clock apps, but I need to know if they actually do the same file copy routine, or if they are able to store my on-disk alarm track selections without the file duplication.
