Root can i change the icons in the status bar?

I have a wfs a510c (metropcs). I was wondering if i can change the status bar icons. If so, could some one tell me how?

Press and hold for a few seconds any icon on the homescreen or any other screen and you will be able to move it or remove it (if applicable)

Thank you, but i was wondering if i can change the signal bar icon or the battery icon.

It's not possible unless your phone is rooted. But you can download apps that allow you do have the percentage for the battery. But you will still have the original one. It will be like you have 2 indicators
