Root Can I delete this bloatware?

champions

Lurker
Obviously I have MetroPCS and was wondering if I can get rid of M Studio and MyMetro with no adverse effects?

Haven't seen these 2 apps listed in the safe to remove posts.

Thanks guys!

Any metro app (even metroweb) can be removed as well as a few non metro apps.

It would be easier for me to list what i HAVEN'T deleted, if that is anyhelp.

Any other apps in question should be posted here in the future.

I thought I had heard somewhere that deleting my metro caused some problems for some people, but I cannot find that post now....

i read that somewhere also, its just account info..kinda handy if youre not already on unlimted everything or if you wanna use it to pay your bill from your phone..i kept it anyway..meh..its just a megabyte
i also kept metro web cuz the other browsers suck imo

Just a tip if you arent sure about deleting something and cant find anything about if you can delete it or not, just rename the apk in the system app folder and put .bk or . anything or anything really and not only does it rename it it uninstalls it. I did this on my Esteem even tho I know what I can and cant delete just because we have no recovery or anything for it. And if you need or want it back just erase whatever you put on the end and it will reinstall.

Also when I renamed my metro and it uninstalled I was getting force closes back to back to back as soon as it uninstalled. I had to pull the battery because I couldnt pull up the power menu before I got the force close again. But after a reboot it was fine. But I did go back and renamed it so it reinstalled just because.

Some apps (pinion and Korean keyboards and the tip widget and a few others) will make the phone reboot upon uninstall, don't worry, its normal.

Deleting MyMetro made my phone unstable. I didn't like that so I left it on. Everything else but the metro browser can be deleted though.

Do you know how to remove the metro boot hello, hello... And add some other boot start splash page???

The sound clip is in the system>media>ui folder I believe. (Really they stick it anywhere they want so it could be anywhere really)

The Metro splash screen? As far as I know you cant change that one unless you know some super trick shiznit

Yeah I do but its slow as crap tho. Around 122kbps which is basically 1x speeds. I have an Esteem now and have 4G now tho.

Check the system media folder like I said before if it isnt in there go to system>sounds>power (if you have that directory) and it should be called MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp3. If its not in there check the data folder thats where it was at on my Ascend....I think

The Metro PCS sound start up is named "poweron.wav" and is located at /system/etc

If you want to remove it just rename it something else, delete, or replace with your own .wav file. I utilize root explorer and make sure you have R/W permissions set.

Thanks for the path to "poweron.wav". Just moved to sdcard and off the phone through the "system/etc" file path using root exploere and no "jello jello jello" metro startup lol thanks!

If you download the pay app bloat freezer from the market you can remove any app to a point and if you have any negative results just unfreeze it. I have found this to be the best way to test safe apps to remove.

I have seen that when I delete the bloatware and apps that I feel are not needed like books, loopt etc. and do the following steps I have no problems after they are deleted.

settings > applications > manage applications > find application you want to uninstall > go into it and clear data & clear cache. oh and also uninstall updates if any.

Just do those steps ^^ above then delete the metro apps and/or apps that can be safely removed and you should have no problems.
