Help Can I disabel the touch screen during a call?

Your posts read exactly like a fanboi's. No, there couldn't be anything wrong with the phone because it works for "YOU". It clearly doesn't work for everyone, despite your protestations that they just learn how to use a smartphone. I've been using smartphones before they even called them that and sorry, but this "feature" is broken for females who wear shiny earrings. Reference the following:

And people are posting here looking for a solution. Heck, I'd even pay for an app to fix this, despite already having the feature built-in to my Palm 755p, which is 6 years old and still works properly. The truth is this was a "fix" that was completely unnecessary. Sure, it's a cool concept to put a sensor on it so it "knows" when you have the phone up to your ear. The problem is, it doesn't work often enough for the majority of the population. For something like this to work right, it has to work properly, all the time, for every user. This clearly doesn't. So, if you can't offer anything of value in the way of a fix instead of berating people about not knowing how to use a smartphone and tearing up the iPhone population, how about you just give it a rest? kthxbai

Does anyone else have or know of an app to simply disable the screen by default when you are on a call?

Another whiner who does not even care to search for a solution, I love them - just whining all the time but never even trying to fix the issue.

Strange it works for some users and not for you.

I find that my display doesn't turn off when I'm in a call so I end up putting the call on hold or dialing someone else with my ear. Its a pain but I manually turn off the screen with a quick power button press each time after starting to dial.

Maybe it only works when you start a call and not when you pick up an incoming call. I wouldn't know because I don't have these problems, the screen turns off like it's supposed to when I put my Milestone to my ear.

All - If someone is having problems and you dont have a solution then please dont post. They have issues and thats why they are here. Calling them "whiners" is not really helping...in my mind.

That said.... I have the same problem as others. The phone wont shut off and my left ear will touch the hold button and put the phone on hold. Most of the time when I am talking, I dont even realize that the other person cannot hear me. It is extremely annoying. They should put the hold button under the menu. Having to "learn" how to use a touch screen is a not really a user friendly solution. This is my 3rd touch screen phone and I never had any problems before. Also I should be concentrating on the conversation not my posture.

Also, if you are on call, and press the menu button to say...look up something on your phone... good luck getting back to the phone screen. Everytime you try to touch the top bar or click on the phone app the screen goes blank and the screen gets locked. After playing hide in seek with the screen 5-6 times you might be able to get back to the phone. I dont understand why the phone has to go blank when you are on the phone but using an app. The proximity sensor is terrible on Nexus One.

Maybe they will hear us and fix it on the next release.

This works for me... the odd time I pull the phone away to give my ear a rest while in the middle of a call, it turns it back on and I've now got in the habit (due to several unintentional hang ups) of checking to see if its on if it is i just press the top button again to turn the screen off and lock it. If yours dont do that maybe its screwed up then.

As mentioned above, try Ted's Droid Tools, it really helps in these situations. I use it with only the screen lock on and it is great.

I guess it's not always working, then. Or maybe that happens when I take the phone away from my ear to change the volume...

The app MyLock is now final (no longer a beta) and solved my problem just fine.
Users who don't have this problem won't need it, but users like myself who do will find it very handy.

... wow, a lot of noise to answer a simple question. I too had the problem of putting calls on hold, and like the above I've been using Teds Droid Tools. It works very well, but is fugly!
