Help Can I disable the optical trackpad on G2

My son loves his new G2, however the optical trackpad is causing him grief, as it is other people. Is there a way to disable the trackpad? He never uses it and now he has a piece of tape covering it to block the light. Pretty tacky for a new phone to need a piece of tape.

I don't know how it's causing a problem since it shouldn't get in the way when you're holding the phone, and I don't know why the light is such a problem to some people. It's not even all that bright. LoL!! The LED light to show that you're phone is charging is like just as bright. LoL!!

Anyways.......... Oh my google!! I was talking all that trash and I can't even find the option. I know I seen it somewhere. Ima keep looking, but the notification light shouldn't be that much of a problem. I mean, if you have your phone locked, and you get a message, just like check the message. It's really there for people who leave their phone on silent. That way, when it starts blinking, that means you got a notification. And silent is not vibrate. You may like leaving your phone on your desk, but don't want the ringing to disturb other people in their cubicles and the vibrating neither, so that's where the notifying light comes in.

But really? I really want to know how is that light bothering people? I mean, if you get a notification, the phone vibrates, ring, and then this blinking light. The light isn't all that bright neither. And when you get this notification, you usually unlock your phone, which turns off the light. So why is the light a problem? It's not killing your battery at all. It's an LED light. If LED lights killed your battery, then why when your phone has about 10% energy left, a little red LED light turns on until your phone dies or gets put on the charger? An alarm clock illuminates more than that light. LoL!! I'm sorry for sounding so shrewd, but I really want an answer to that question. I'll find your answer, because I know I seen it somewhere. LoL!!

I believe it it the pad it self not the light they are talking about. I have accidentaly brushed it and stuff but on a whole I have no issues with it.

Yeah. The issue here is that because the G2's trackpad is optical, if it gets pointed at a bright light it may register. This is annoying if you're in the middle of typing something, because it can inoducetr tyops.

It hasn't happened to me too often, though, and I use the trackpad a lot. Sorry OP, I don't know of any software solutions off-hand. Good luck!
