Can I edit text files on an Android?

I may buy an Android phone (I'm on Sprint, if it matters).

Is there a built-in or for-pay (cheap) way that I can put plain text files IN the phone (not on the cloud) from either my computer or the cloud, then edit them in the phone, then later copy them back to my computer or the cloud (for backup...automated sync/backup is good too :) )?

From reading the "Moving Stuff" stickied thread, I see I could at least put files on using a USB cable, or Wi-Fi. So how about the rest...editing them? And then I guess I copy them back.

I would be doing this for maintaining notes, task lists, errand lists, small amounts of reference info, etc.

Does the solution for transfer/edit exist for both 2.x and 4.x?

Every version of Android I can ever remember has a built in text editor that will edit .txt files. I'm sure there are plenty of other apps out there that would fit the same bill. An easy way to manage them from PC to phone and back again would be to use Dropbox or similar.

Most file manager like EStrongs File Explorer can edit .txt files.

I also use EStrongs File Explorer for to access my PC and my NAS per WiFi in my home network.

Hey jasonand
You can easily edit almost all format of files on your android smart phone. It allows you to edit all MS office files, there are apps that provides you support for editing files and you can further upload them over your desired cloud.

Yes: built-in, paid, and free. On Android you've got choice!

There are plenty of free and paid text editor and Office apps in Android for your choosing. I use free Kingsoft Office. And even Micro$haft, just yesterday, has announced they will be launching Micro$haft Office for Android soon.

And then I guess I copy them back.
Plenty of choice there as well: wired or wireless, remotely or nearby. USB, WiFi, Bluetooth, SonicShare, Kies Air, Airdroid, etc. etc. Whatever you like.
