Can I get the old Google Maps back after upgrading?

tuz

Newbie
I just updated my HTC One and now I can't downgrade to the older Google Maps that had better navigation, like I used to. Does anyone know a way to get it back??? I hate the new Google Maps! So much!

I just downloaded Waze and at a glance I'm not a fan but that's just a quick glance from sitting in my apartment. What I really liked in the old Google Maps was the chance, during navigation, to see other possible routes and their distances and times. I really hate not having that, is that in Waze somewhere?

have you tried and go into your phone settings/apps/google maps and unistall updates?

Yes. That is what I had done on the previous OS. But it looks like a more recent version of Google Maps, where they redid the whole thing a few months ago, is the oldest version you can get with that method.

i think the only way is to search for an older google maps.apk. the ones i have found were on a different device forum....not sure if those apk's are device specific or not.....and you most likely need to be rooted to install it.

In order to access alternate routes with the current update of Google Maps you need to tap the x to close the current route and then tap the address search box to see the list of avaliable route options.

I like the old way better as well but I'm getting used to the new Maps more and more.

You don't need to tap the address search box, as soon as you tap x the map displays all routes with the alternate routes greyed out and details of the current route at the bottom. You can select another route by tapping that route on the map or swiping left/right on the details then tap start to begin/continue navigation on the selected route.

:)

I miss the old program, seriously, I got lost and it had me back on track within 10 minutes. Now, I dunno WTF to do with the new version. For starters, WTF does it keep telling me to turn on WIFI. I'm on the bloody highway, what does WIFI have to do with it if I have my 4g on?

I have an older version of Google maps taken from the Ace-i-Sure 8.0.0.zip rom update that I have not bothered installing on my Galaxy ACE.I don't know if it will work on your system but you are welcome to a copy.
PM me and I'll upload it to some web space I have. It's 8 meg-ish in size or you can google that zip file as I have a very crappy internet connection but the rom is 119 meg but it also has some useful apks in it's app folder.Do NOT use the rom on your phone as it's only for my S5830i and back up your phone+SD card before any operations.

HTH :)

Unfortunately though, it only describes those routes by road, which doesn't help much if you don't know the area. You can swipe it to the side to see the map of that route, but you can't easily compare multiple routes like you could with the old app.

For me, all routes are shown clearly in the same map view with the current route highlighted blue and alternate routes grey.

Swiping the details card moves the blue highlight to the appropriate route, I don't have any difficulty comparing routes, in fact I find it quicker and more effective than using 6.14.4 on my Desire S.

Thank you! I wouldn't say it's "clearly" shown in grey, because I didn't even notice it was shown in grey. Now that I know what to look for though . . ..

Still, the older was better because it showed you the times of the three routes simultaneously. You didn't have to select each one to find the time for each one. Or am I again missing something? ;)
