Can I keep gMail from starting at boot?

I'm playing with K9-Mail and Tasker. I would REALLY like to remove gMail/Android from the playing field while I do this.

I'm a DOS guy and I have no clue if there's such a thing as an autostart list that I can edit or ??? I'm using a rooted DroidX with 2.3 loaded.

Help, help! ... and thanks!

Easiest thing to do would be disable syncing for gmail.

If you wanted to take it a step farther you could use titanium backup to freeze it, but I am not sure if that has a detrimental effect on anything else like if you remove talk.

I think you could use a task killer and have it on an auto killer list. That way when gmail opens the task killer closes it. This is only if you don't want gmail on your open apps at all. If you don't want it sycing you can do that too.

I think it'd be beneficial IMO to have gmail running at the same time so you can see the performance side by side. But to each his own.

Task killers can not even kill tasks anymore unless you don't have froyo yet. Even if it can kill a task they usually do more harm than good

You sure about that? I'm not exactly the one to know because I haven't used one in ages - which was pre 2.2 - but I'd imagine they still have functionality. Unless theyre just for show and noob users now.

They have always been just for noob users. Android handles multi taking very well. Yes,i am very sure. After froyo that functionality was removed so no app can kill another app. It was very disappointing for those of us that used tasker to kill app's in certain situations.
