Help Can I remove shutdown controls from the lockscreen?

teuchter

Lurker
Hi there, first post, believe I'm in the right place.

I managed to get a Nexus 4, and while I would prefer a traditional, removable battery, I do see one advantage in the design.

What I'm hoping for is to prevent the possibility of shutdown/aeroplane mode without unlocking the phone (by PIN) first, so that pressing the power button while the phone is locked only wakes it, but holding it won't do anything. That way if it were ever stolen, the thief wouldn't be able to turn it off or its GPS, at least not without breaking it, thus ensuring that it can be tracked (I've looked into those apps to).

I know it's an unlikely scenario but I'm curious about the possibility. Does anyone know of any apps/workarounds that would make this possible?

Welcome to Android Forums, teuchter!

I have moved this thread into the Nexus 4 forum so that others with that same phone can post their tips to help you get acquanted with your new Nexus 4.:)

I believe that it's both better and easier to install Cerberus. Tracking the phone (and a whole lot more) is triggered via a web account from any browser anywhere, regardless of whether the thief (or you remotely) wipes the card, replaces the SIM, power-cycles the phone or anything else.

Forcing the phone to stay powered-up will drain the battery and preclude tracking.

I had a similar request on another thread and they also recommended Ceberus. I downloaded it a few days ago but haven't set it up yet (damn, im lazy). I'll check it today.

While not what the OP is looking for, I'll also recommend Cerberus. FANTASTIC app that's well worth the money!!!

Don't just "set it up" but put it through its paces. Login to the website account you create and execute the various commands available before the need actually arises; get intimately familiar with how it works. Remove the icon from the phone's app tray via the website control and try to remove the Cerberus app from the phone itself, as a knowledgeable thief would.

I chose for command results (pictures etc.) to be sent to an email account that wasn't being polled on the phone, so any thief wouldn't know their picture was being taken.
