Help Can I reset to default?

Newbie
Toward the end of last year, I started to experience some problems connecting to a particular wifi system. To try to rectify this, I started messing around with all kinds of settings. Now I'm finding that my phone (HTC Desire HD) is having difficulties with most wifi systems. The phone seems to connect to wifi OK (the signal icon appears strong), but I'm usually unable to move any traffic up or down. If I switch off wifi (go back to 3G only) I can get access to web services OK.

Trouble is, I'm off to the States on holiday later this week, where I hope to be able to use my wi-fi connection extensively. However, I'm afraid that I may have screwed up the settings somehow. I definitely want to avoid using the 3G network for data due to the expense of doing so.

Is there any way to restore the phone to its default settings without endangering my contacts, downloaded software, etc? I'd like to see if in fact I am at fault and messed something up.

If you want to restore to factory settings, you would "loose" your contacts and apps, however your contacts shold be backed up with your google account (this is worth doing, in case you ever loose/damage your phone and need to get a new one).

Your apps are backed up via the market - any paid apps should start downloading when you link your phone back to your google account... any free ones will need re-downloading, but you can find a list of all apps that you have ever downloaded by going to the market on your computer and clicking on "My Library" towards the top right hand side of the market.

D-U-R-X,

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that. Too bad no one at HTC thought to include a simple "Return Settings only to defaults" option!

No problemo - sorry it wasn't the answer you wanted!

If you do decide to go for it, you can back stuff like texts up with apps available in the market... give us a shout if you need more info! :)

OK, one last dumb question.

I've backed up my contacts to my SD card. Will the SD card remain unaffected if I now do a hard reset?
