Root Can i root my 2.2 evo?

I manually updated my evo, without a root... obviously. to 2.2

Now, with that said.

Can i root my phone now? i really want to customize it.

3.26.651.3 is my build number

im a newb to rooting, all i know is before nothing worked. (on 2.1) i trued unrevoked, simpleroot... eveything.

My phone isn't rooted yet, but I plan on doing so. I was curious to know if there was a benefit to waiting till the devs root Froyo before I update, versus upgrading to Froyo now & waiting till they root it. Eventually I want to have root, but I'm also eager to get Froyo. Is the main risk that it could potentially take a long time to root froyo?

how long does that usually take?

like, how long after 2.1 did they get a root.

The devs have to find an exploit in order to do anything. If they can't find anything, it will never be rooted. It usually gets harder to find something after each update, unless there is alot of new code added, since those exploits are going to be fixed.

By contrast, adding root permissions to a stock rom and then flashing that onto a rooted phone is easy. I'll be shocked if there isn't a rooted rom of the official froyo release by 3 or 4 am. That's why if you can get root, and you want to have it in the future, you shouldn't ever do an OTA update.
