Root Can I root with a broken volume up button?

The volume up button on my Thunderbolt is broken (volume down works just fine). Will I need the volume up button to root?

I think you could root fine, have you contacted VZW to see if they will warranty replace your phone for you? I think I would try that first as it will be annoying to use recovery and hboot without a volume up

It might be worth a shot, but there are scratches on the volume button, making it pretty obvious it was dropped.

Yeah if it is obvious damage they will tell you to file a claim with insurance but still worth a shot.
