Root Can I unroot with broken vol down button?

There are a couple of hardware issues I have with my evo and I need to unroot my phone before I take it in to be repaired. Ive read the rooting for dummies thread and feel comfortable unrooting, but as the title states, My vol down button is broken. Most of the steps involve powering down my phone and getting into bootloader/recovery by holding vol down + power button. Instead of powering down my phone and holding vol down + power, could I just reboot my phone and get back into the bootloader/recovery through the custom power menu that my rom has? Or does unrooting require that my phone be turned off after each step stated?

Thanks in advance for the help :). Sorry if I dont reply immediately, Im getting sleepy.

most roms can power down to recovery. your issue is navigating in recovery and hboot. read xtreme's thread here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/371191-get-unrooted-warranty-service.html it uses your computer to command the phone. read it thoroughly and ask questions if you have any before proceeding.

hope that helps
